Manager/Senior Manager in Frederick, MD, you'll play a pivotal role in channelling our scientific capabilities to make a positive impact on changing patients' lives.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
The Finance Senior Manager will report to the Frederick Biologics Manufacturing Site Controller. You will serve as an excellent business partner for cost center owners at the site, as well as work with other colleagues in the AstraZeneca Finance organization to provide relevant and timely financial support for key business decisions, and to maintain compliance with Company Policies and SOX.

The duties encompass monthly accounting close, management reporting, investment management support, budgets and forecasts, FP&A, internal control duties and ad-hoc financial support, as required.

You will also support SAP cost accounting initiatives for the Frederick Manufacturing site, working with AstraZeneca's Centers of Excellence (COE) to develop and maintain accurate standard costs. You should have a keen understanding of manufacturing finance and SAP cost accounting.

Business Partner

Work with cost center managers to develop accurate and relevant budgets and forecasts. Deliver timely and relevant financial reports to the business. Shape long-term financial health of AstraZeneca by identifying value creation opportunities and advising managers on key business decisions. Provide relevant financial analysis for key business decisions. Work closely with COE colleagues to provide excellent support to business partners. Provide finance counsel at various Operations meetings

Investment Management

Review business cases for capital investments. Assist Project Management in developing prioritized site budgets for capital projects. Track and report capital project progress and variances Ensure that capital investments are accounted for in accordance with AstraZeneca's Accounting Policies.

Budgeting & Forecasting

Document and distribute key budget and forecast assumptions to cost center managers. Utilize AstraZeneca budget & forecast models to develop zero-based operating expense budgets. Evaluate and report key business risks & opportunities. Accurately analyze and plan for manufacturing absorption and variances. Ensure that the timing of expenses are accurately planned for within AstraZeneca's Accounting Policies. Develop capital and inventory financial forecasts for the sites. Work with AstraZeneca COE colleagues to ensure that budgets and forecasts are accurately loaded in the reporting system. Ad hoc requests

Month End Closing

Analyze spending trends at mid-month in SAP to identify potential variances. Prepare journal entry analysis and documentation supporting reclassifications and accruals performed by the COE. Review manufacturing variance results and ensure that COE records them timely and accurately. Review COE monthly operating expense reports and provide concise, value added commentary explaining major variances. Review COE prepared asset reconciliations and review asset balances for compliance with AstraZeneca Accounting Policies. Present operating expense results to cost center managers in a timely manner. Review and report key financial metrics against the site & regional dashboards

Cost Accounting

Develop keen understanding of SAP Cost Module and apply it to setting standard costs for both sites in accordance with AstraZeneca's methodologies. Assist local Planning and COE in setting up the BOM's raw material and semi-finished goods standard costs. Develop labor, overhead and other additive amounts applied to standard costs. Work collaboratively with other sites to develop consistent costing methodologies and standards. Analyze and report on complex process order and manufacturing variances. Engage with Regional Finance support as appropriate

Compliance:

Safeguard assets and company reputation by adhering to AstraZeneca's policies and procedures. Review monthly inventory cycle counts performed in the Warehouse. Review monthly balance sheet reconciliations performed by the COE.

Essential Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting, or equivalent business experience
  • Six to ten years of progressively responsible experience for a major company's manufacturing operation
  • Excellent communication, particularly in regard to presenting the results of analyses to management.
  • The ability to work independently and to collaborate cross-functionally are key success factors
  • Strong desire to pursue manufacturing excellence and add value to patients
  • Outstanding knowledge of Microsoft Office software and SAP Cost modules
Desirable Requirements
  • MBA, Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant
  • Prior experience in the Pharmaceutical Industry
