The Lab Analyst I performs sample preparation, performs analytical and/or assay testing, and manages data in support of Materion's requirements for customers and the ISO 17025 management system. The Lab Analyst I reports to the Senior Analytical Chemist or Analytical Lab Manager as appropriate, with dotted line responsibility to the department lead.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Work with Lab Analyst II and the department lead to receive training, use the QMS software to access and acknowledge training documents and work instructions.
  • Follow standard procedures regarding sample preparation prior to instrumental analysis; this entails using rolling and cutting equipment, very accurate weighing of samples, hot plate acid digestion of samples, and accurate dilutions among other common laboratory procedures; attention to detail is a key requirement.
  • Perform testing and data recording for provided samples using the following techniques (not necessarily a complete listing):
  • ICP (MS/ OES)
  • Corrosion Testing (Salt Spray)
  • GDMS
  • Fire Assay
  • IGA (Leco)
  • Alpha Count Testing
  • WDXRF
  • SEM/EDX (and Image Analysis)
  • Maintain open and active communication with managers regarding workflow, issues, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Able to maintain a safe, clean work environment, including the handling and movement of bulk acids.
  • Proficient in the use of computers, standard office software and systems (e.g. LIMS, SAP), and the ability to perform data entry accurately and quickly with no errors or transpositions.

Requirements:
  • High school diploma, technical school, or GED required at a minimum, coupled with 2 or more years of relevant analytical experience.

The selection of the person to be hired for this position is contingent on the candidate having export compliance eligibility for access to U.S. controlled technology which comes under the licensing jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of State, International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the U.S. Department of Commerce, Export Administration Regulations (EAR).

The candidate selected will have to qualify as either a U.S. citizen, a U.S. National, a lawful permanent resident of the U.S., a Person Admitted into the U.S. as an Asylee or Refugee., a National of a country that is not prohibited from having access to U.S. controlled technology (via a letter of assurance), or a Person to be approved for an export license by the governing agency whose technology comes under its jurisdiction.
