About This Position
The John P. Hussman Institute for Human Genomics at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine has an exciting career opportunity for a Research Associate 1.
The John P. Hussman Institute for Human Genomics is dedicated to using the very latest in cutting-edge technologies to identify genes involved in human diseases for the diagnosis, intervention and prevention of illness. Our work ranges broadly across many scientific disciplines and involves close collaboration with the global community of scientists and medical professionals, as well as the community at large.
Our scientists are among the first generation of researchers realizing the potential of the Human Genome Project, the working genetic "map" of human DNA that was completed in 2003. They are leaders in the application of clinical, molecular, and mathematical techniques to identify genes leading to human disease.
The Research Associate 1 supports research activities in the Hussman Institute by conducting laboratory experiments on assigned research projects. Moreover, the Research Associate 1 operates with the goal of advancing his/her expertise through continued education, training, and research.
The duties and responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to:
- Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures.
- Participates in the publication of significant results.
- Maintains an overview of relevant research findings.
- Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice.
- Keeps abreast of current publications relative to methods, techniques, and developments within the area of research.
- Collects, prepares, analyzes, dissects, and evaluates specimens or tissue cultures.
- Operates and maintains laboratory equipment.
- Performs a variety of routine assays, tests, and studies.
- Performs calculations to complete research test results, collects data, and performs statistical analysis of laboratory results.
- Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
Bachelor's Degree in a basic science discipline. Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail. Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines. Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion. Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary. Commitment to the University's core values. Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment. Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.
