Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.:

  • Bachelor's Degree. Must be completed, not in progress.
  • Documented work experience with adolescents or college students in a professional setting.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail as evidenced in cover letter and submission of a complete application.
  • Demonstrated evidence of strong verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to write effectively.
  • Demonstrated skill using computer software, specifically Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel (must address each software individually).
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a college advising center, academic department, or other area of student/academic support.
  • Demonstrated professional knowledge of Texas State academic policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated professional experience using Banner Student Information System.
  • Demonstrated professional experience using Degree Works degree audit software.
Job Description:

Academic advisors are responsible for providing quality academic advising to current and prospective undergraduate students.

Job Duties:

  • Understand and advise students on topics related to undergraduate majors and degrees offered in the College of Health Professions.
  • Guide students on program admission requirements and degree completion.
  • Prepare for and conduct accurate advising sessions.
  • Maintain confidential student files through accurate and thorough documentation.
  • Assist in reviewing applications for graduation status.
  • Provide accurate information and outstanding customer service.
  • Maintain working knowledge of advising as a profession.
  • Maintain effective communication and collaborative relationships with academic units and university partners.
  • Represent the College of Health Professions at recruitment events.
  • Provide clerical and administrative support to the office.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
