The Exeter Job Corps Center provides students with the opportunity to earn their High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED), and hands-on training in the following areas: Certified Nurse Assistant, Clinical Medical Assistant, Medical Administration Assistant, Patient Care Technician, Plumbing, Painting, Security and Protective Services, HVAC, Landscaping, Electrical, and Building Construction Technology.

The Academic Instructor/Reading & Math Teacher is in charge of teaching basic reading and math skills to students in the Career Education Center. They are responsible for developing individual achievement plans and academic goals to ensure that students achieve their academic objectives in the program. Additionally, the instructor collaborates with Career Technical Training (CTT) Instructors to incorporate applied academics into CTT curricula, which helps students learn and succeed.

Responsibilities:

  • Teaching:
    • Plan, prepare, and deliver effective lessons that align with the curriculum and educational goals.
    • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student participation and engagement.
    • Utilize various instructional methods and resources to accommodate diverse learning styles.
  • Curriculum Development:
    • Collaborate with the education team to develop and update curriculum materials that meet industry standards and educational requirements.
    • Integrate real-world examples and practical applications into lesson plans to enhance relevance and student understanding.
  • Assessment and Evaluation:
    • Implement regular assessments to gauge student progress and adjust instructional strategies accordingly.
    • Provide constructive feedback to students on their academic performance and offer guidance for improvement.
  • Student Support:
    • Offer additional support to students who may require extra assistance in grasping academic concepts.
    • Collaborate with other instructors and support staff to address individual student needs and challenges.
  • Professional Development:
    • Stay informed about current educational trends, teaching methodologies, and industry-specific developments.
    • Participate in professional development activities and training to enhance teaching skills and knowledge.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited school required, Master's degree preferred
  • Valid RI teaching certificate required
  • Previous teaching or Job Corps experience strongly preferred
  • Physical requirements include sitting, standing, climbing, walking, lifting, pulling and/or pushing, carrying, reaching, stooping, and crouching
