Responsibilities:GENERAL
Nursing faculty reports directly to the Program Director. Provides quality, innovative and evidence-based instruction. The primary duties of this position are classroom instruction, lab instruction, and clinical supervision in both face to face and online courses. Continues professional development. Performs other related duties as required.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS1. Teach for either the RN or VN program, as determined by the Nursing Program Director.2. Maintain academic standards as established by the Nursing Program and the Texas Board of Nursing.3. Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the VN and/or RN Program curriculum.4. Participate in the development, implementation and enforcement of standards/policies for admission, progression, probation, and dismissal of students.5. Participate in student mentoring, academic advising and registration.6. Participate as a member of teaching team in preparation and presentation of learning experience with integrated nursing curriculum in the classroom, clinical skills lab and simulation lab.7. Provide direct supervision of students practicing in clinical area including patient selection, observation of students in delivery of patient care, evaluates performance of students' nursing skills and conducts daily post conference.8. Communicate objectives for student performance to the clinical facility administration and nursing staff.9. Continue self-development through continuing education offerings, workshops, professional meetings, graduate study, etc.10. Incorporate new knowledge and techniques into teaching.OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS1. Committee assignments and other services, as required including activities that support the function of the nursing program as a whole.2. Perform other related duties as assigned.3. Faculty members who serve as Student Organization/Club Sponsors have significant responsibility for student and campus activities and are therefore considered a Campus Security Authority (CSA) pursuant to the federal Jeanne Clery Act. Faculty members who serve as a Student Organization/Club Sponsor will be responsible for reporting information in compliance with the Clery Act.
Basic Nursing and Vocational Nursing Program Faculty- Associates degree in nursing from an accredited college or university required. Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Vocational Nurse in Texas.
Registered Nursing Program Faculty - Master's degree, or doctoral degree, preferably in nursing. A Master's degree in a discipline other than nursing must be accompanied by a Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited baccalaureate program in nursing. If teaching in a diploma or associate degree nursing program, six (6) graduate semester hours in nursing are appropriate for assigned teaching responsibilities. Current license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Texas.
ExperienceRequires a minimum of three to five years employed in nursing/nursing education in the last three years; must include experience in the clinical setting. Community college, lower division, or two-year college teaching experience strongly preferred. Experience in Blackboard Learning Management System preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesExtensive knowledge and experience in nursing. Possess a proven track record evidence-based knowledge, clinical expertise and safety in nursing areas. Knowledge of curriculum development. Knowledge and understanding of the current trends and issues in nursing and nursing education.Demonstrated skills and proficiency in the following: use of Microsoft Office products, particularly Word, PowerPoint, and Excel; written and spoken communication; public speaking; planning, scheduling, and managing projects and assignments; establishment of effective working relationships with others; working with little or no supervision; following established college or employment policies and procedures; and promoting a positive campus image.
