Encourages participants to continue in and graduate fromsecondary school, enroll in post-secondary education or reentry programs ineducation. The Advisor/Coordinator will provide program services specific tothe needs of our adult and veteran program participants and to our high schooland middle school participants as well.
Essential Job Functions:  1. Execute the goals and objectives of the Educational Talent Search program.2. Initiate and maintain contact with target schools, helping agencies and community organizations.3. Act as a liaison between the target schools and post-secondary institutions.4. Recruit eligible participants.5. Provide individual academic guidance and counseling designed to encourage and assist participants in  completing a rigorous secondary school program of study.6. Coordinate all program activities in assigned target schools.7. Maintain and manage student records and documentation of participants' program eligibility, need  for services, services provided, and progress.8. Plan and conduct workshops (either in-person or virtual) related to career exploration, college orientation, and financial aid awareness.9. Develop Individual Career and Academic Plans (ICAP) for participants and provide academic planning guidance.10.  Assist participants with admissions and financial aid for college.11.  Assist the Project Director in preparing and gathering data for the Annual Performance Report/Review (APR) required by the Department of Education.12.  Provide early retention intervention activities focusing on 6th-12th grade participants to assist with secondary school completion and postsecondary enrollment.13.  Performs on-going evaluation of the effectiveness of the programs services and monitoring of all program objectives, participant retention and activities.14.  Help supervise and transport participants on visits to post-secondary institutions, businesses and cultural events.15.  Provide parental involvement workshops on the availability of financial aid, FAFSA submission, the importance of post-secondary education and other educational topics.16.  Provide academic services designed to encourage reentry of eligible populations into secondary or postsecondary education-including dropouts and veterans.17.  Completes all mandatory training and participated in a minimum of two professional development each year. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, psychology,social work, human relations or related field of study.

Work Experience:

    Two years ofexperience in student personnel services (i.e., in an academic, personal and/orcareer counseling setting).Two years of relatedexperience with disadvantaged youth.
Certifications/Licenses:
    Valid Oklahoma driver's license.
    Must take Driving Training Certification within 3 months of employment in order to drive company vehicles (provided by OSU-Oklahoma City).

Knowledge,Skills, and Abilities:

    Active listeningskills, essential in the counseling role.Familiarity withmultiple career assessment instruments, understanding and interpretation oftest scores.Accuracy in collectingdocumentation of data required for annual performance reports.
    Excellentorganizational, time management, and human relations skills.Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectivelywith high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.Ability to communicate diplomatically, clearly andeffectively, both verbally and in writing to exchange information, give/receiveinstructions and respond to inquiries appropriately.Strong interpersonal skills and sensitivity to amulticultural environment in an effort to work and communicate effectively withall students, faculty, staff and community partners.High degree of initiative to work independently and alsocollaborate in a team environment.Demonstrated knowledge of office technologies including butnot limited to: office computers, fax machines, scanners, internet, MicrosoftOffice (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook).Highdegree of integrity; ability to work in a sensitive, highly confidential andprofessional environment.Ability to workeffectively with participants of various ages, races, backgrounds andethnicities.Ability tofacilitate student workshops in person or through virtual platform.Passion forassisting customers and representing the OSU-OKC and OSU brand with positivityand professionalism.Demonstrated history ofethical and professional behavior.

Preferred Qualifications:

    Master's degree in education, counseling or related field.Experience working in a federal TRIO program.Understanding of veterans' issues and educational benefits.Experience in the administration, scoring, and interpretation of career assessments.Understanding of students who may be 1st generation, low-income and/or disabled.Skill in curriculum development and instructional planning that can be used to coordinate and facilitate various workshops.Knowledge in using digital platforms to perform job functions.Experience as a bilingual English/Spanish speaker.

Working Conditions:

    Must be able to work flexible hours to include some nights and weekends.Work will be performed in an office environment with a significant amount of public contact, in person, by telephone, via email, and various communication platforms.May be occasional changes in work schedule due to participation in public relations, outreach, student advisement, and other campus activities.In-state travel to include exposure to outside conditions as relates to program cultural events and activities. Occasional overnight stay may be required.Occasional out-of-state travel for trainings.

Physical Requirements:

    Duties require extended periods of sitting, talking and listening.
    Duties require extensive use of computers, telephone and other office equipment.
    Requires possible lifting of up to 25 lbs. (If an object weights more than 45 lbs., OSU-Oklahoma City requires this to be a two-person lift).
    Drive participants on visits to post-secondary institutions, career site visits and cultural events, when needed.
