What you'll do in this role:
Process monthly sales and use tax compliance, business licenses, exemption certificates, excise tax, gross receipts and abandoned property returns for all legal entities.
Assist with monitoring correct taxability with vendors. Other value-added projects, as assigned.
Assist with state and local audit examinations to provide support and explanations for positions taken on the tax returns for sales & use tax, property tax, and unclaimed property.
Review PARS (Procurement Authorization Requests) to ensure proper taxation of purchases. Responds to and resolves tax notices received from taxing jurisdictions.
Assist with department initiatives to optimize and automate processes
What you'll need to be successful:
Education:
Bachelor's degree with background in finance or accounting.
Experience:
0-2 years in tax or accounting, transaction tax experience with a major corporation or large CPA firm a plus.
Knowledge:
Familiar with tax principles and procedures, general knowledge pertaining to personal property tax, real property tax, sales & use tax, and/or unclaimed property.
Skills and Abilities:
Driven individual eager to learn
Computer literacy (Proficient in Excel. SAP experience is a plus.)
Meets deadlines consistently and deals effectively with auditors.
Collaborative with strong oral communication and presentation skills
Technical writing ability for drafting tax memoranda, responses to audits and notices, and file documentation.
Proactive with the ability to develop strong working relationships and maintain high ethical standards.
Able to understand and accurately interpret tax laws, rules and regulations
The starting budgeted pay range for this role will generally fall between $62,700.00-73,800.00. Scotts will consider various factors in determining the actual pay including your skills, qualifications, experience, and geographical location.
