Position Summary

Under the direction of Quality Control Manager, the Analytical Technician maintains Q.C. analytical equipment and the laboratory computer system.

Essential Functions

  • General maintenance of all X-ray equipment to include troubleshooting and coordination of outside maintenance and repairs when needed.
  • Calibrate X-ray equipment to ensure accurate chemical analysis and compliance with ASTM C 114 requirements.
  • Routine X-ray analysis of internal raw material and production standards.
  • Routinely check and report on microscopy of clinker.
  • Continued development and maintenance of laboratory data files.
  • Assist in gathering data for technical reports.
  • Proficient in Raw Mix control.
  • Fill in for laboratory management when they are away from the plant.
  • Fill in for Physical Tester as needed.
  • Responsible for other lab instruments and calibrations as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience
  • Minimum 60 hours college with 8 hours of a science. (College degree preferred)
  • Minimum 2 years cement experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Must be familiar with or willing/able to learn X-ray analytical equipment.
  • Must be familiar with or willing to learn microscopy procedures and interpretations.
  • Must be proficient with Windows operating systems.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Excel, Access and Word.
  • Must be available for call-outs during the week and weekends.
  • Must be willing to work shifts and overtime when required.
  • Ability and willingness to work without constant direct supervision.
  • Ability to prioritize workload in an efficient manner.
Working Conditions

Must be able to work in all weather conditions (heat, cold, and/or rain). Must be able to work in noisy environment with noise levels up to 120 dba. Must be able to work in environments including vibration and mechanical and electrical hazards. Must be able to work any assigned shift. May have exposure to dust, cement, clay, gypsum, sand, diesel exhaust, lubricants, solvents, various fuels, etc. (See MSDS's)
