Position Overview

Operator is responsible for the daily operation and load out of the hot mix asphalt (HMA) batch plant or drum plant.

Roles and Responsibilities

(Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Operate plant automation and perform dispatching duties which includes plant operation and silo loadout.
  • Assist the Plant Supervisor/Manager and team with the daily safe and efficient operations and upkeep of the plant.
  • Formally and visibly demonstrate support and understanding of CRH and Tilcon's core values of Safety, Integrity, Quality
  • Positive interaction with customers, paving forepersons, aggregate and drivers.
  • Must be competent with computers and have a thorough knowledge of window-based programs.
  • Must be able to accurately complete daily paperwork which includes plant production reports, material produced and sales reports and nightly deposits from cash customers.
  • Ability to access all areas of the plant to perform necessary maintenance and repairs.
  • Ability to perform other maintenance related duties on-site as required by supervisors that include cutting, welding and metal fabrication.
  • Knowledge of all applicable regulations affecting asphalt plant production, safety environmental, state, federal, and company policies; ensure observance of such regulations; and ensure compliance with all regulations and permit condition.
  • Ability to detect safety hazards and malfunctions and respond accordingly.
  • Work safely, complying with all OSHA and MSHA regulations and Tilcon environmental, health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.
  • Report to the assigned plant facility ready to begin work at the designated start time.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Environmental, Health & Safety Manual.
  • Regular and timely attendance is required.

Marginal Duties and Functions
  • Additional duties as assigned or required.

Compensation starts at $29/hour and includes a comprehensive health benefits, annuity, pension, and savings package.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education/Experience

Required
  • High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) or 3 years+ of practical work experience.

Preferred
  • 5 + years of practical work experience in the asphalt plant field.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the preferred knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • High level of proficiency with all Microsoft Office applications.

Work Requirements
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and company procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Ability to work scheduled overtime and weekends and occasional night shifts.
  • Available for emergency overtime when the need arises. This may include occasional weekend hours.
  • Ability to travel to various job sites several times a week.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements
  • Ability to read English language sufficiently to read information contained in reports, manuals and regulations.
  • Ability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with and work well with other personnel.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.

This job will require both office work and field work.
