Position

Reporting to the VP of Finance, the Assistant Controller will be a leader in Stenograph's finance team and will collaborate with VP of Finance to aid in the direct financial decisions and overall strategy of the company. S/he will help craft and enforce policies while being a driver of the department's accounting, financial reporting, analysis, and compliance. S/he will play a key role in financial administration, business planning, and budgeting. The Assistant Controller will be responsible for ongoing advancement of the Accounting and Finance function including development of the core team. S/he will also play a key role in collaborating across functional areas and departments to foster a Strategic Business Partner culture.

Primary responsibilities include:

Financial Reporting and General Ledger

  • Lead efforts in timely and accurate completion of month-end close process; including journal entries, balance sheet reconciliation, variance to budget and prior month analysis, and financial reporting to corporate.
  • Analyze accounts, oversee balance sheet reconciliation process, make recommendations and adjustments.
  • Generate and review periodic financial statements and reports, both internal and external.
  • Oversee the preparation and compilation of all financial reporting materials to ensure they are complete, accurate, and in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Key contributor to budgeting, forecasting including implementation, actively monitoring and analysis to present operational metrics both internally and externally.
  • Provide overall written explanations of variances with detailed support as needed to tell narrative of company performance.
  • Assist with the creation of dashboard reports/metrics for the management team / functional areas.
  • Review periodic departmental spending reports with department managers and work together in cost reduction efforts and align financial management with short and long-term planning and projections.

Compliance

  • Maintain/oversee testing of the control self-assessment (CSA) database for the business unit.
  • Interpret, analyze, and develop workflows ensuring compliance with internal and corporate guidelines including but not limited to Trade Compliance.
  • Assist with and oversee internal and external audit activities, including YE financial review along with any action plans or remediation efforts.
  • Oversee Sales and Use Tax Compliance including assessment, reconciliations, filings, and annual coordination with sales and income tax audits.

Treasury and Cash Management

  • Oversee company's purchasing and corporate payment card program including ongoing monitoring and reporting as well as payment processing.
  • Responsible for review and approval of recurring payment runs to vendors and suppliers as part of working capital management.
  • Lead efforts in drafting major expenditure authorization requests to leadership and ownership including business case and payback/ROI calculations.

Team Management

  • Assist with attracting and developing financial team members including develop and manage all direct staff.
  • Engage other employees / departments -to facilitate cross-department collaboration that ensures that all financial solutions positively support Stenograph's evolving strategy, operational delivery, and data collection needs.

Qualifications

The candidate will be an experienced accounting and finance professional with at least 5 years of experience including Financial Reporting, Planning and Analysis, process improvement and making actionable recommendations to senior leadership. S/he will ideally have experience managing finance (accounting, budgeting, forecasting, control, and reporting).

The Assistant Controller will have the following experience and attributes:

Education

  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in Accounting / Finance
  • CPA/CMA certification preferred and/or MBA a plus.

Skills & Relevant Work Experience

  • Must have at least 5 years of hands on accounting and financial reporting experience, preferably in a manufacturing / software technology environment.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting and financial processes including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), general ledger, managerial / cost accounting, financial closure, forecasting, budgeting, and reporting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with strong oral and written skills.
  • Problem solving and critical thinking skills, including ability to analyze, interpret, understand, and successfully resolve issues within the best interests of the company.
  • Experience with streamlining and automation of standard processes and procedures.
  • High degree of diplomacy and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the company, platform, and parent organization.
  • Proficient use of ERP systems. Experience in Microsoft Dynamics 365 F&O, or MS Navision, including implementation experience a definite plus.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office365, PowerPlatform, specifically PowerBI or other analytics/visualization software a plus.
