Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Advising will advise all students who express interest in learning more about or intention to enroll in a School of Accountancy program, help recruit students the degree programs, and work closely with each student to plan a degree program according to the student's area of interest and professional goals. The position will also interact with faculty, University staff, employers, CPA licensing authorities and others on behalf of students and graduates of the School's programs.
Primary responsibilities of this position focus on welcoming students to the School's programs, orienting their experience, planning their academic journey, developing course plans, designing co-curricular and extra-curricular experiences, tracking student progress, supporting the awarding of scholarships and financial aid, managing enrollment through course forecasting and scheduling, supporting academic assessment, designing academic recovery plans, maintaining student records, performing graduation checks, helping students navigate licensing requirements for their intended state of residence, and collaborating with career services to assist in job placement. The position will also create, market, and implement extra- and co-curricular events; disseminate information to students; and, gather information from students and alumni for reporting purposes. The position will also support alumni requests for assistance with CPA licensing needs. The position will also support Beta Alpha Psi, a student organization that focuses on professional development of its members.
This position will also assist with the creation and maintenance of staff procedural manuals, program marketing and support materials, student tracking systems, and other needs of the School. Within the academic framework, additional processes include enforcing federal policies with respect to regional accreditation, student privacy, international student status regulations, graduation records, university catalog/bulletin standards; AACSB policies as they pertain to accreditation and curricular compliance; authority with adherence to university policies concerning School catalog/bulletin responsibilities, curricular changes, graduation reviews, course substitutions, domestic and study abroad transfer credit evaluation, academic deficiency notifications, deadlines, extensions, petitions to various academic units, and other procedural activities.
Essential Functions
Advising: Provide academic advising services for academic and co-curriculum for undergraduate, graduate, and dual undergraduate/graduate students seeking a degree, minor, or concentration in Accounting. Ensure all students are informed of relevant academic and administration information in a timely manner. Respond to student concerns and issues regarding course schedules, degree completion and/or registration procedures utilizing strong problem-solving and registration database-solving skills to meet student needs. Plan and assist the School of Accountancy with respect to course scheduling and forecasting for purposes of strategic enrollment management. Display agility, assimilation, and dissemination of yearly curriculum changes/iterations implemented by the School of Accountancy and multiple units across campus. Assist students and graduates in navigating CPA licensing rules in their State of residence.
Program Management: This position will help to design, manage, coordinate, plan and execute student services activities for School of Accountancy students as needed. This position will communicate with stakeholders, develop necessary printed materials and manage of overall execution of activities related to student services. Manage and support finances and contracts related to the operational and logistical delivery of student services programs including administrative tasks related to Beta Alpha Psi and travel courses. Develop assessment tools to evaluate programs, offerings and delivery of activities. Provide leadership in working with the school director and assistant director, university offices, staff and faculty to ensure a seamless experience for students. Participate in strategic planning, development and management process in support of School of Accountancy programs.
Policy/Procedure: Academic processes regarding School of Accountancy students including graduation certifications, preliminary graduation reviews, course substitutions and transfer credit evaluation, course scheduling, extensions and petitions to various academic units and academic deficiency notification. Assist the School's scholarship committee for efficient awarding, notice, and maintenance of departmental scholarships. Assure compliance with federal guidelines, accreditation, DU, Daniels and School of Accountancy academic standards.
Management: Manage TA/GA assignments and student employees. Handles all administrative tasks related to hiring and payroll.
Strategy: Participate in strategic planning, development and management process in support of School of Accountancy programs.
Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by the School's director or assistant director. Train, study and master redundancies within scope of responsibilities. Professionally and independently create student services aligned with the School, Daniels and University mission which include, but are not limited to, inclusive excellence, case competitions, panel discussions, employer relations, data analysis, targeted populations, community outreach, and professional certifications.
