The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is accepting applications for an Assistant Director of Graduate Diversity Recruitment in the Graduate College. The Assistant Director will recruit, counsel, and advise prospective graduate students through the graduate admissions and enrollment process while overseeing the development and implementation of graduate diversity recruitment programs. Programs overseen include Community of Scholars, ASPIRE early campus visit program, the Summer Research Opportunities Program, and the Summer Predoctoral Institute.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Student Recruitment
- Lead graduate student recruitment campus visit programs and associated guidance for students through the graduate school application process, including Community of Scholars, and the ASPIRE early visit program.
- Present at campus and external outreach activities and orientation programs, graduate, and professional school fairs, and workshops at partner campuses and minority serving institutions. Occasional travel required.
- Collaborate with other units and departments across campus on recruitment efforts.
Teaching and Advising
- Develop and lead workshops for prospective graduate students on graduate education opportunities, application process, graduate research & scholarship, and other topics to support their exploration of pursuing graduate studies.
- Develop and lead seminars on and off campus germane to topics that effect the success of graduate students underrepresented in graduate education, such as Impostor Syndrome.
- Advise and counsel SROP alumni students through the application, admission, and enrollment process to graduate studies at Illinois.
- Mentor and advise students participating in the Aspire Illinois Summer Webinar Series.
- Support the graduate student retention programs, including professional development programming, through campus and virtual outreach events.
Program Administration
- Lead and facilitate the Summer Research Opportunities Program (SROP@Illinois) and Summer Predoctoral Institute (SPI), including supervising graduate student employees, running the application process, and overseeing the logistical implementation of the programs.
- Conduct program evaluations, analyze results to ensure program effectiveness, create reports, and identify trends in data.
- Assist with other projects in the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and the Graduate College.
Required education, experience, and qualifications:
- Master's or graduate degree
- Minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible experience in higher education administration.
- Experience working successfully with diverse populations in a team-oriented environment.
- Experience in developing, administering, and presenting workshops and programs or classroom teaching experience.
Preferred education, experience, and qualifications:
- Experience developing blogs, newsletters, or other written communications for educational outreach.
- Familiarity with graduate programs, particularly at the University of Illinois.
Successful candidates will have the following:
- Knowledge of the needs and concerns of students from U.S. racial/ethnic populations underrepresented in graduate programs.
- Ability to develop strong and effective relationships with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and external partners.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively to prioritize tasks.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people in a team-oriented environment.
- Excellent oral and written communication s kills.
Appointment Information This position is a 100% full time, twelve month, benefits-eligible Academic Professional position. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.
