This is a remote position; the selected candidate can reside and perform the work from anywhere within the United States.

The Role:
The Global Product Development and Design organizations at General Motors are home to the innovators driving the future of transportation and growth for the company through thrilling electric vehicles, intuitive software, and cutting edge virtual and advanced design processes that carry on a century-plus heritage of pioneering new ideas. This Communications team is responsible for bringing the company's storytelling to life in equally creative and forward-thinking ways.

The person taking this position on the team will be specifically responsible for shaping a Communications strategy around GM Design; they will also need to manage storytelling paths that are self-led through GM's corporate brand as well as collaboratively through the Chevrolet, GMC, Buick and Cadillac brands.

The role requires a strong understanding of both consumer and corporate audiences (investors, policymakers, employees and potential employees) as well as the paths and tools to reach them, including media relations, digital channels including social, and paid content models, with a goal of inspiring advocacy.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a communications strategy to place GM at the forefront of design thought leadership conversations both inside the automotive industry and beyond
    • Understand executive priorities, voices, and where to apply them
    • Develop and execute a plan to reach relevant audiences through design event activations, influencer engagement, and media pitching
  • Aggressively mine for stories in and beyond the GM design organization; approach conversations with a great curiosity for and interest in the technologies that will advance GM's corporate and consumer brands
    • Seek people and process stories that advance GM's design leadership narrative
    • Understand product messaging and strategic direction of brand teams
    • Identify stories, spokespeople, and competitive advantages that support those the launch strategy
  • Collaborate across a work team and more broadly across GM Communications globally to support design and technology narratives
    • Take turns leading and support others on major events including GM investor days, technology shows like CES, and more
    • Support others with a "One Team" approach to balance workloads and positively impact work-life balance
    • Work with GM Brand Communications to identify people stories and photo/video assets for use on GM social channels, GM.com, and paid content partnerships
    • Proactively share plans and identify opportunities for internal efficiency
  • Contribute to a clear and cohesive corporate narrative and make a positive cultural impact
    • Approach work with a curiosity for Design but also other areas of the business and how they intersect
    • Take the time to ask questions and understand unfamiliar audiences
    • Serve as a uniting force for GM's brands and organizations and make a positive impact on a GM Communications culture of inclusion and respect
  • Demonstrate strong media relations, writing and storytelling skills

    Additional Job Description

    Required:
    • BA in communications or related field
    • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience

    The median starting salary range for this position in Colorado is $109,283. Applicable salary ranges may differ across markets. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
