Description
Do you enjoy working with others, and are an effective communicator? Are you detail oriented? The Nebraska Board of Parole and Division of Parole Supervision is seeking an Assistant Parole Officer to provide technical support to the Omaha area Parole Officers and to serve as the Omaha office's drug technician. Candidates for this position must be male in order to comply with the established Division of Parole Supervision Drug and Alcohol Testing Protocol. The position will involve minimal travel around the Omaha/Douglas/Sarpy/Lancaster/Cass and Saunders County areas. Please note- The top candidate will be required to commute to and from initial training, which will be held at the Lincoln Regional Office 421 South 9th Street, Suite 220, Lincoln, NE for the first month of employment. A State vehicle or mileage reimbursement will be provided. This will be followed by on the job training in Omaha. Location of position: 1313 Farnam Street Suite 232, Omaha, NE 68102

Work schedule: Monday - Thursday 12:00 pm - 8:00 pm and Friday 7:30 am - 3:30 pm
Examples of Work

  • Collect, test, and report/enter results of drug test samples from male clients.
  • Notify clients and Parole Officers of positive drug test results.
  • Follow established chain of command of evidence in drug testing procedures.
  • Maintain drug testing supplies and inventory.
  • Assist Parole Officers in making follow up calls with entities or persons associated with clients for information verification.
  • Assist with paperwork administration.
  • Monitor curfew checks and electronic monitors via computer.
  • Assist as backup in the field as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Requirements
REQUIRED: Coursework/training in administrative/office support functions, procedures, and methods including the operation of personal computers and office equipment; or areas related to the programs and functions of the employing agency. OR Experience in customer service or public contact; or applying criteria/regulations; and/or performing administrative/office/secretarial support work including use of personal computers and office equipment.

PREFERRED: Graduation from high school or equivalent, Associates Degree in Criminal Justice/ Social Sciences, demonstrated prior substance abuse or chemical testing training, previous experience working with the offender population.

OTHER: Candidates for this position must be male in order to comply with the established Division of Parole Supervision Drug and Alcohol Testing Protocol. This position requires travel. As such, the incumbent must be able to present a valid driver's license or another form of reliable transportation. Regular and reliable attendance is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to communicate effectively with staff and clients, orally and in writing. Capable of organizing and prioritizing daily work activities. Ability to follow directions.
