General Description:

This regular, twelve-month, part-time (85%) position is responsible for assisting the Head Softball Coach with organizing and coaching the softball team and assisting the college with student and community engagement opportunities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Assists with the supervision of practices and games.

Provides instruction to student-athletes as directed by the head softball coach.

Actively encourages academic success and degree completion among student athletes. Monitors study hall attendance and faculty progress reports for student-athletes.

Assist with transport of athletic teams to and from games and tournaments. Maintain a commercial driver's license (CDL) class C with P (passenger) endorsement.

Assists with the supervision of team activities.

Assists with equipment inventory and maintenance.

Assists with field maintenance and preparation.

Assists in coordinating fund raising activities following state and DSCC policies.

Participate in the annual athletic awards program.

Assists in maintaining program compliance with NJCAA and TCCAA eligibility criteria and reporting as requested by the head softball coach.

Serves as the website content manager for women's softball.

Assist with student-athlete recruitment and retention under the direction of the head softball coach.

Plan and execute a yearly youth softball camp fundraiser in the summer. Work with the college public relations department each spring to plan appropriate and timely promotion the camp.

Other duties as assigned by the Dean of Student Services, Athletic Director or head coach designed to promote engagement college in student life and athletics including but not limited to:

  • Serve as a game day administrator for athletic games and events as defined by the TCCAA by-laws upon request.
  • Oversee concessions at basketball games and other athletic events.
  • Provide supervision for the Dyersburg Campus game room, and assist with activities intended to promote usage such as tournaments, featured games, and events.
  • Assist with college intramural sports and activities intended to promote healthy activity.
  • Assist with local shuttle of DSCC students to and from classes and activities.

Working Conditions:

Restricted: Sustained posture or intense attentiveness for prolonged periods. Light lifting (less than 50 lbs), walking, pushing, and pulling on a regular basis. Occasional exposure to risk controlled by safety precautions. Frequency or severity is limited. Travel, including overnight travel, will be required to and from games, and for college or program activities.

Required Qualifications:

Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver's license.

Obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL) class C with P (passenger) endorsement within one year of employment.

Minimum Requirements of Education and Experience:

High school diploma required.

One-year experience in a position that requires coaching high school or intercollegiate athletics required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution or master's degree with 18 graduate semester hours in a high need teaching discipline from a regionally accredited institution preferred.

Preference is given to candidates with community college and NJCAA experience.

Minimum starting pay is $31,365 annually. With additional experience pay increases to a maximum pay of $39,185.
