ASSOCIATE DEAN FOR DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION

The new Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion will report to the Vice President for Student Life and Dean of Students and will be responsible for developing and supporting campus-wide initiatives in service to Bridgewater College's goals for an equitable and inclusive environment for students and employees, especially those from traditionally underrepresented populations. In this role, the Associate Dean must be adept at facilitating challenging cultural dialogue, building community, and creating and strengthening partnerships across campus. The Associate Dean of Students will serve as a member of the Student Life leadership team and will supervise the Chaplain and the Coordinator for Diversity Education & Advocacy.

SOME PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ASSOCIATE DEAN FOR DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION INCLUDE:

  • Develop and implement strategies with key stakeholders to collaboratively foster diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Provide vision and direction for inclusion initiatives with a particular focus on diversity, equity, and access, and serve as an advocate for the interests of traditionally underrepresented students.
  • Collaborate with, and provide consultative services to, the college community related to diversity and inclusion.
  • Engage in strategic planning and program and policy development to support the Office of Student Life in developing, implementing, and assessing campus climate relative to diversity, inclusion, and belonging.
  • Provide and facilitate training across multiple dimensions of diversity through program development and collaboration. Engage and develop Bridgewater students in issues related to human diversity, providing opportunities to develop relationships with individuals and groups they consider to be different from themselves. Assist with recruitment and retention initiatives.
  • With the support of the Chaplain and Coordinator for Diversity Education & Advocacy, manage planning details and activities for workshops or events.
  • Maintain current knowledge of best practices and current trends in diversity, equity, and inclusion and bring that knowledge to inform program and policy development work.
  • Model inclusive leadership, fostering a culture that prioritizes equitable decision-making and outcomes with the goal of student success.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A doctorate in a related field is preferred although consideration will be given to candidates with a master's degree and significant administrative and Student Life operations experience. While not an exhaustive list, candidates for this position will have a minimum of five years of demonstrated success working with culturally diverse communities of students and staff, including traditionally underrepresented and international student populations, proven experience in mediation and de-escalation, and recognized leadership and experience in advancing equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging within a complex organization. The ability to thrive as a member of a high-functioning team with demonstrated judgment, analysis, and decision-making skills is highly valued.

REQUIRED:

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization.
  • Five years of successful work experience in dealing with diversity, equity, and inclusion programs, with a working knowledge of applicable laws, rules, and regulations concerning such programs.
  • Excellent communication skills, with a track record of positive management, leadership, and successful collaboration, as well as the ability to clearly communicate concepts, ideas, and information to influence a broad range of audiences internally and externally.
  • Demonstrated and proven ability to initiate and lead large-scale programs and projects.
  • Ability to gather and analyze data and to draw sound conclusions from the data.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and professional discretion.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of campus culture including the role of faculty and shared governance, campus operations, the influence of government, and the needs of students, faculty, staff, and administration with respect to diversity.

PREFERRED:

  • Possess an existing network of professionals engaged in the field of diversity and equity in higher education.
  • Three years of supervisory and project management experience in a similar role.
  • Experience with Title IX, Title VII, ADA, EEO/AA preferred.

Pay is competitive, and salary is commensurate with experience. This full-time position offers a full benefits package, including paid tuition at the College for eligible dependents.
