SUMMARY:

The APPR reports to the Provost and is the planning and financial advisor to the Provost Office and a member of the Provost's core leadership team. The APPR will support the Provost Office (PO) in aligning resources to the academic mission of the university by providing multi-year financial, academic, personnel, and space planning and forecasting, and by helping to implement academic priorities across the University. The APPR will collaborate closely with members of the Provost Office, the University's Office of Planning and Budget (OPB), the President's Office, schools, and academic units -- on planning, personnel requests, and academic priorities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Planning of academic projects, resource use, personnel and space

  • Work closely with leadership to analyze and evaluate programmatic, financial, personnel, and capital plans in academic affairs
  • Suggest strategies for best use of Provost Office resources
  • Work closely with the Sr. Associate Vice President for Campus Operations and other offices to support space planning across the Academic Affairs division
  • Attend regular meetings with directors, deans, appropriate staff and leadership to discuss projects and priorities
  • Develop familiarity with day-to-day operations and the programs of the schools to be able to provide guidance and advise on best practices, University policies, and financial implications
  • Design and deliver presentations that educate University leadership on potential options, facilitating informal and formal dialogue as needed
  • Develop hypotheses and conduct analyses to respond to ad-hoc queries and strategic requests
  • Work closely with OPB and the school budget managers on annual budgets and key financial planning challenges and opportunities
Project implementation across schools and academic units
  • Assist the Provost and Provost Office in implementing key initiatives
  • Oversee and manage financial and other data
  • Manage and advise on effective use of endowed chairs
  • Help supervise cross-university programs as designated by the Provost
  • Work with OPB and other offices to execute strategies for forecasting and using resources
  • Work with the personnel system interface and information updating
Collaboration with the Office of Planning and Budget Team
  • Work closely with other groups, including the offices of Planning and Budget and the Controller's Office to align with University-wide financial management initiatives and policies that inform planning, reporting, and analysis
  • Assist other analysts as appropriate in times of workflow fluctuations, if needed
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Proven success in financial management and planning, strategic planning, and organizational development
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in and support a community of diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment
  • Demonstrated success in problem-solving, analytical approaches to decision-making, data management reporting, and project implementation
  • Demonstrated integrity, sound judgment, advocacy, and ability to represent units professionally and ethically with tact and diplomacy
  • Demonstrated success in meeting organizational objectives through negotiation and consensus and community building with a wide, varied, and diverse constituency
  • Collaborative working style and ability to build strong relationships with people at all levels of the organization
  • Experience with designing and executing strategy-based analyses, including scenario modeling and linking finances to the execution of projects
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting to management and/or senior leadership
  • Exceptional analytical skills with demonstrated ability to solve problems by asking the right questions, thinking creatively, and involving subject matter experts
  • Ability to organize, work with, and communicate complex data, including financial data
  • Change management and continuous improvement mindset
  • Well organized, flexible, and able to manage and realize the goals of multiple challenging projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Initiative and ability to work independently and as a member of a team
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Ph.D. or other terminal degree with four or more years of progressively responsible leadership experience, preferably in a higher education setting; or
  • Master's degree in a related field with seven or more years of progressively responsible planning, analysis and project management experience, preferably in a higher education setting
WORK HOURS:
  • Full-time, exempt position
  • Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; 7.75 hrs./day; 38.75 hrs./week
