Job Summary:
This position is being recruited at either the Assistant or Associate Director level. If position is filled at the Associate Director level, there will be additional responsibilities for the overall management of the Career Services office and team. The additional duties, responsibilities, and qualifications of the Associate Director are outlined separately.

The Assistant or Associate Director for Employer Relations will:

  • Work directly with the Coordinator for Internships and Employer Relations and the Director to develop and maintain contacts and regular communications with employers to expand professional full and part-time employment as well as internships/co-ops for EWU students. This position is tasked with outreach to employers through networking, referrals, and cold calling.
  • Supervise the Coordinator for Internships and Employer Relations. Together, the Employer Relations team will serve in employer relations roles for internal stakeholders (faculty and staff), manage all Career Services signature events, and build and maintain relationships with employers that lead to employment opportunities for EWU students.
  • Work closely with Career Services staff to host career fairs and networking events for students to connect with employers. The position will also work with staff to develop targeted recruiting strategies for potential internship and employment opportunities.
  • Work with the Employer Relations team to manage a database of job and internship postings and specifically track part time employment information. The position also assists the Director in developing policies according to industry best practices to insure a high-quality recruiting program.
  • Work with the Director to develop and manage a preferred employer partnership program where partnering employers receive elevated and comprehensive services from the Career Center in return for donations and service premiums paid to the office.


The incumbent must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends to staff scheduled campus events.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Two years’ experience in higher education or related field
  • Ability to effectively work both independently and as a part of a team
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to multitask; exceptional time management skills
  • Knowledge of technology and data management tools
  • Demonstrated experience in report writing and industry analysis
  • Valid driver’s license
  • High level of cultural humility and experience working effectively with marginalized populations
  • Demonstrated interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility, and/or diversity.


Associate Director Level – Additional Required Qualifications:
  • Four years’ experience in a student-services setting in higher education
  • Demonstrated experience in providing strategic vision and direction for a team or office


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree with a focus on business, higher education, human resource management, administration, or related field
  • Experience working in a career services setting
  • Experience with recruiting and fundraising/development
  • Two or more years demonstrated staff supervision experience

Responsibility / Duty: Employer Relationship Cultivation and Management
  • Develop and maintain relationships and regular communications with employers (local, state, and nationwide) to ensure repeat recruiting visits designed to provide internship, student employment (part time and seasonal) full time professional, and volunteer opportunities for EWU students and alumni
  • Perform outreach through referrals, research, and cold calling employers; arranging visits to employer sites and hosting organizations on campus for employer development and cultivation purposes.
  • Assess employer recruiting needs, quality of recruiting services provided, and other employer related data management to improve the recruiting process
  • Increase involvement with employers with demonstrated commitment to diversity in the workplace
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with organizations and business sectors that historically have had little or no interaction with the Career Center and/or experience with hiring our students and graduates. Seek to connect these entities with the appropriate resources and personnel at the career center and/or the university
  • Counsel employers regarding the most effective means of identifying potential job candidates to meet the employer’s specific needs, including, but not limited to campus recruitment, job postings, internships, career fairs, class/organization presentations, and resume searches
  • Represent the university and Career Services at regional professional association conferences and professional development workshops
  • Design and implement marketing strategies and recruiting tools to target employers
  • Participate regularly in local community business events such as chambers of commerce, economic development associations, etc.
  • Assist Director in developing and executing the preferred employer partnership program

Responsibility / Duty: Manage Career Services Signature Events
  • Work with the Coordinator of Internships and Employer Relations to plan and execute major events including, but not limited to: Cheney/Catalyst career fairs and networking events, managing EWU’s involvement with the FUSE Career Fair, and the development of annual educational events such as an etiquette dinner, a keynote careers address, and an on-campus job fair.

  • Maintain detailed records of employer contacts, services utilized, and potential opportunities
  • Manage and continuously update the computerized employer contact database ensuring current contact information
  • Compile statistical information regarding recruiting and hiring outcomes for Federal reporting and divisional annual report
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure a high-quality recruiting program that reflects the needs and expectations of employers and students

  • Hire and train staff regarding procedures, assignments, and industry best practices, enforce adherence to university, state, and fed. laws, rules and regulations
  • Develop and refine procedures and assignments to effectively utilize staff resources
  • Provide professional development opportunities for employer relations staff
  • Conduct the annual review(s) for assigned staff

  • Serve on the Career Services Leadership team
  • Work closely with Career Services staff to share information on recruiting trends and to collaborate on special projects
  • Attend administrative staff meetings, participate in Student Affairs activities, and represent Career Services on campus and in the community as needed
  • Connect employer information with college liaisons to ensure that handoffs are made, and employers’ needs are met
  • Network with other university constituents such as academic departments and colleges, EWU Alumni and EWU Advancement
  • Partner with Alumni Relations to manage the Eagle Career Network mentorship platform

  • Work with Director to craft the mission, vision, and goals for the Career Services team
  • Work with the Assistant Director for Career Development to ensure that employer relations and career development staff are one cohesive team, not two teams working in silos
  • Work with the Director to craft strategic initiatives for the office that lead to increased resource development, operational efficiencies, and service growth for existing and future stakeholders
  • Assume management and/or operational responsibility of Career Services in the absence of the Director

Conditions of Employment:

The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment.

Salary Information: The salary range for this position is $62,489 (minimum) up to $65,000. Where the hired candidate will begin within this range is dependent on education, experience and skills.
