A.T. Still University (ATSU) is seeking applications for a Proposal Development Specialist on the Mesa, Arizona campus. This position reports to the Director of Sponsored Programs.
ATSU is a culturally rich environment leading the way in whole-person health education with cutting edge technology and instruction. Sponsored Programs is a fast-paced, service-oriented team which is responsive to the dynamic needs of University faculty and administrators.
The Proposal Development Specialist will serve as a key Sponsored Programs pre-award team member, working collaboratively to provide grantsmanship expertise and grant-writing leadership to faculty, administration, and staff. Specifically, they will be responsible for pre-award funding searches, topical analyses, and grant development/writing (facilitating competitive applications to federal, state, and/or foundation sources) that complements ATSU's mission and the strategic directions of its health professions schools, colleges, and programs.
The Proposal Development Specialist will report directly to the Director of Pre-Award Services. Proposal Development Specialist duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Meet with deans, administrators, faculty, and stakeholders to help identify/link ATSU programs to optimal external funding
- Research, analyze, and recommend SP funding opportunities based on institutional priorities and competitiveness
- Develop grant-related ideas/priority areas and collaboratively write/prepare authorized SP applications
- Serve as a liaison between the University and funding agency personnel
- Assist with the development of project budgets, sub-award/contractual agreements, and progress reports
- Survey and keep abreast of professional literature relevant to ATSU priority areas/strategic directions
- Accomplish special projects assigned to the Sponsored Programs team
The responsibilities of the Proposal Development Specialist will include, but are limited to, the following:
- Research grant-related topics/demographics, cite relevant literature, and prepare summary analyses
- Collaboratively generate successful SP grant applications via co-writing, ghost-writing, and peer editing
- Nurture, mentor, and help train faculty and staff on grant-related issues and skill building
- Assist in the daily operation of the SP office and maintain strong relationships with colleagues in multiple locations/states
- Manage/accomplish special projects as assigned
Skills / RequirementsApplicants with proven track record of writing/receiving prior grant dollars preferred, as are those with knowledge/experience in public and private funding sources. Experience with: 1) grant/technical/creative writing, program development, proofreading, editing, and/or scientific writing; 2) working in a highly productive, fast-paced, and sometimes stressful environment, 3) working with multiple people and projects simultaneously; 4) working independently and in a team environment; and 5) managing multiple deadlines priorities.
Must be service and teamwork oriented! Strong interpersonal communication; excellent written and oral communication; effective time management and organization; advanced proofing and editing; exceptional reading and comprehension; critical thinking; strong problem-solving; project management experience; diplomacy; and advanced computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, database, and other business applications/programs). General office skills are also necessary. Must be a self-starter.
Qualifications for this position require a four-year college degree or equivalent combination of education/training.
Pay from $49,088.
Campus location is Mesa with potential for a telecommuting.
