Fleet Services is the full-service, fleet management organization at Indiana University. We provide vehicle and equipment rentals, leases, maintenance, fueling, and manage micro-transit van services for IU Bloomington, and fleet program assistance for the IU regional campuses. Our team is dedicated to providing safe, reliable, cost-effective and sustainable transportation solutions for our customers to support the mission of Indiana University.

Job Summary

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Provides automotive diagnosis and repairs of the most advanced nature (including engine overhauls, transmission repair, automotive diagnostics, brake component repair, component troubleshooting and repair, and preventive maintenance) for all types of equipment and motorized vehicles.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned, including general building maintenance duties.
  • Diagnoses, maintains and repairs mechanical systems of all types, including small and large motorized gas, electric, and/or diesel equipment, automobiles, medium and heavy duty trucks and shuttle buses.
General Responsibilities
  • Performs repairs and maintenance procedures; diagnoses, tests, adjusts, and repairs mechanical systems of gas, diesel, and hybrid vehicles.
  • Examines, tests, drives and troubleshoots electrical and mechanical problems using standard testing procedures and computer diagnostic equipment.
  • Performs repairs and replaces defective parts.
  • Performs routine and scheduled maintenance services according to manufacturer's specifications.
  • Maintains inventory and restocks parts.
  • May respond to road calls.
  • Maintains records of repairs and preventive maintenance.
  • May perform other general garage duties as needed.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)
WORK EXPERIENCE

Required
  • 3 years of experience in the field of automotive repair
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

Required
  • Valid driver's license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University upon date of hire
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B (or Class A) driver's license or ability to obtain CDL within 180 days from date of hire
Preferred
  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires 24-hour a day emergency response as needed and to assist with snow removal activities as necessary. This role requires availability to work during inclement weather (i.e. snow and ice) when weather emergencies dictate that the department is needed to take care of the campus.

This role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. This role frequently requires the ability to handle equipment. This role frequently requires the ability to remain stationary and ascend/descend ladders/stairs. This role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. The role requires the ability to detect items in close proximity as well as far away; discern between colors; detect objects in peripheral space of self; discern items in detail; and to have good depth perception. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
