Job Description

Hybrid Work Position: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired.

This position requires an employee to be onsite 1-3 times per week.

VDDV Simulation Engineer, responsible for virtual simulation of Automated Driving with the UltraCruise and ADAS features on GM vehicle programs for different scenarios and load cases

Major responsibilities include:

  • Collect and build components of the UltraCruise vehicle model (sensors, controls, vehicle dynamics, etc.) with or without ADAS features; assembles these components into a functioning system model.
  • Build virtual test scenarios per internal and other requirements, work with System Engineering, Calibration and Validation Engineers to understand all vehicle level performance targets and requirements.
  • Execute virtual scenarios using the system vehicle model, evaluate and report vehicle performance.
  • Conduct virtual variation studies, to improve vehicle performance and performance robustness, and to minimize test hardware utilization.
  • Work closely with the UltraCruise software development team, controller release engineers, sensor release engineers and the program team to stay up-to-date on the product design and development.
  • Follow UltraCruise development process, attend Software and vehicle performance reviews and make design recommendations based on virtual simulation results.
  • Work with CAE tool suppliers to develop an effective modeling process and toolset for Active Safety and Autonomous simulations.
  • Proactively seek understanding of new simulation technologies; adopt and use simulation and programming tools effectively.
  • Proactively identify new opportunities to apply simulation methods to support UltraCruise and ADAS features development and validation.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current regulatory, consumer metric and internal requirements and test protocols related to Active Safety and Automated Driving.
  • Work with GM Engineers across the globe; support collaborative, creative, and productive work environment.
  • Share knowledge openly with Team members and proactively seek opportunities for reuse and sharing of tools and processes with fellow team members and with other Teams
  • Keep the virtual simulation results well documented, organized, and available to team members.
  • Consistently and proactively take lead on problem solving; seeks feedback about the results provided to project stakeholders.
  • Consistently demonstrate GM Core Values and Behaviors.

Additional Job Description

Qualifications:

Required:
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of Vehicle Safety, Vehicle Dynamics, Safety Controls, Active Safety and Automated Driving Sensors (radar, camera, lidar, ultrasonic) and relevant simulation tools
  • Ability to learn and use Application Program Interface (API) of various software
  • Programming knowledge: C++, Python and/or Matlab/Simulink
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Demonstrated ability and enthusiasm to overcome challenging roadblocks.
  • Demonstrated ability to keep multiple projects on track, well organized and documented through all phases from definition/initiation to completion.
  • Ability to work independently as well as a part of a team
  • DFSS Green Belt certification required

Preferred:
  • Knowledge of Vehicle Dynamics simulation tools and AD/ADAS simulation tools such as CarMaker, CarSim, Vires VTD, Carla, Applied Intuition, etc.
  • Familiarity with High Performance Computing (HPC) environment
  • Experience with co-simulation setups
  • Familiarity with software development tools and methods
  • DFSS Black Belt certification

Education:

BS in Mechanical, Electrical or Aerospace Engineering required

MS or Ph.D. in Mechanical, Electrical or Aerospace Engineering preferred
