The Aspire Works Internship program provides supported workplace experiences to neurodiverse adults seeking to build professional soft skills with support. The program partners Aspire Works participants with internships offered through employers throughout New England. Interns who participate in the program may be on the autism spectrum or may have a diagnosis such as ADHD, Nonverbal Learning Disability, or Dyslexia. Interns are placed in roles that utilize their strengths and help them grow their skills in their targeted areas. Career counselors are responsible for supporting interns throughout their 10-week internships, which may be either remote or in-person. Counselor will be asked to perform both in-person and remote responsibilities.

Under supervision of the Internship Program Manager, the Career Counselor fulfills various tasks to help coordinate the program. The principal duties of the Career Counselor involve a) providing individual career counseling and facilitating group seminars for participants of the Aspire Works Internship Program, b) providing consultation to employer managers supporting interns, and c) supporting daily operations of the internship program.

Career Counselor is responsible for assisting the Aspire Works Program Manager in coordinating the administrative and programmatic aspects of the program. Principle duties include: providing supports to help interns complete the hiring requirements at each respective internship site; assisting with pre-placement and on-going training of interns through weekly seminars; providing on-site and off-site coaching of program participants at their assigned workplaces; providing consultation to employers in order to support the intern in the workplace; assisting Aspire Works Program Manager with employer meetings and trainings; and collaborating on the ongoing refinement of program curriculum. The Career Counselor will assist with weekly seminars for interns during each cycle. This is a 20-32 hr per week seasonal position in the summer.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related field (psychology, social work, OT, PT, or SLP) required.
  • Masters degree preferred
  • 1 Year of related experience required, preferably working with teens/young adults/families with Autism Spectrum Disorders
  • Working knowledge of many of these areas of expertise: social thinking, executive functioning, sensory processing, collaborative problem-solving, strengths-based curriculum design and processing, group development, whole person philosophy, behavioral management, and social-emotional development.
  • Desire to help ASD individuals develop and maintain social skills.
  • Desire to work with disadvantaged youth and families.
  • Strong independent organizational skills, including managing competing priorities, deadlines, and structuring task initiation and completion
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Desire to work in team-based environment.
  • Program design and development experience.
  • Leadership skills (ability to provide feedback, modeling, and teambuilding).
  • Problem Solving skills (ability to identify problems, recommend solutions, make effective decisions)
  • Team Building skills (ability to supervise and build a strong working team)
WORKING CONDITIONS

Various settings (school, employment office) with indoor and outdoor locations
