JOB SUMMARY

The School of Business Office of Undergraduate Advising (OUA) and Business Connections Learning Community (BCLC) is seeking a full-time BCLC Program Administrator and Academic Advisor (Student Services Program Administrator).  The incumbent will report to the Executive Director of Undergraduate Programs and will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of student activities or service areas through the development, implementation, and coordination of student development programs in the School of Business Office of Undergraduate Advising (OUA) and the Business Connections Learning Community (BCLC).  The position will be based at the Storrs campus but may require occasional in-state, out-of-state, international travel, and evening or weekend hours in support of program activities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting in the planning, development, design implementation, and evaluation of activities to ensure students are achieving the established learning outcomes and retention goals for the OUA and BCLC.
  • Advising current and prospective business students in personalized curriculum decisions including the appropriate choice of courses, scheduling of courses, selection or change of major or minor, waiver of requirements/deadlines, and related matters.
  • Auditing student records to determine progress toward meeting academic requirements, probationary requirements, and eligibility to graduate.
  • Creating individualized plans and programs for experiences that support students in their educational needs, career goals, and professional development especially focused on students in the BCLC.
  • Discussing students' status regarding academic warning, probation, or dismissal.
  • Coordinating and implementing the day-to-day administrative activities for the recruitment and retention of students as it relates to delivering the BCLC.
  • Attending to the needs of the BCLC student population by creating and implementing tailored programs, advising, and services through collaboration with other student-centered offices.
  • Refers students to other student success services such as Career Services and Counseling and Mental Health Services, as appropriate.
  • Serving as a liaison between the offices supporting undergraduate programs in the School of Business, to provide developmental experiences for the BCLC students.  
  • Assisting in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating experiences for the BCLC including but not limited to professional events, field trips, and alumni visits.
  • Assisting in the creation and implementation of BCLC marketing plans; engages in public relations and promotional activities for BCLC events.  Coordinating the content development and distribution of ongoing communications to BCLC students and professional staff involved in the program to foster awareness, promote professional development opportunities and build community.
  • Coordinating the residential aspects of the BCLC program including managing the resident assistant and community mentor selection processes, determining BCLC housing assignments for sophomore business students based on the students' participation in Learning Community events during their freshman year, and maintaining open lines of communications between the First Year Programs and Learning Communities, Residential Life and other institutional contacts.
  • Coordinating the development and implementation of BCLC-specific courses for freshmen and sophomore students and teaches in these programs, including First Year Experience courses.
  • Training, supervising, and coordinating the activities of BCLC program and/or student staff.
  • Actively engaging in the development and implementation of the annual BCLC International Business Immersion Experience; attends the annual International Business Immersion Experience with business learning community students.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Five years of related work experience. One year of experience must be serving as an advanced team member.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven experience working successfully in both an independent and team environment.
  • Experience planning, coordinating, and executing events.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel, and Access.
  • Demonstrated experience working with college students in higher education institutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask in a high traffic office.
  • Dependable transportation and willingness and ability to travel in-state, out-of-state, and internationally, and work occasional evenings and weekends.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree in counseling, higher education, or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a higher education environment in a university residential learning community setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading short-term international travel programs for undergraduate students.
  • Demonstrated experience in fostering professional relationships with undergraduate students.
  • Demonstrated experience working with students seeking admission to selective admission programs.
  • Demonstrated experience working with student organizations in higher education.
  • Prior experience working with software systems to generate and utilize data to inform decision-making.
  • Prior experience in teaching college students. 
  • Demonstrated experience in creating electronic newsletters.
  • Previous supervisory experience of student staff.
