This position supports our healthcare professional liability line of business and can be based in Austin TX or fully remote in our Southwest Region.

The primary responsibility for the Director of Business Development is to manage the business development activities in the HCPL line of business. This position is responsible for attaining monthly and annual business development targets, establishing strategic business relationships, and developing and implementing strategic business development plans. The Director manages the agency distribution network by providing strong market support and driving business expansion throughout assigned region and as defined in the Company's Strategic Plan. This position is accountable for attracting, securing and retaining profitable business in business segments within the Company. This position will deliver an unparalleled level of service to the Company's agency partners with the ultimate goal of achieving annual business plans and objectives. As a member of the regional management team, the Director participates in developing and executing strategic plans to maximize the effectiveness of the business development operation in support of all company business objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

45% - Management Responsibilities:

  • Recruit, train, supervisor and evaluate Business Development team.
  • Manage the performance and activities of the Business Development team, including creating training and development opportunities.
  • Continuously motivate the Business Development team and inspire them to stay focused on goals and objectives.
  • Manage the distribution system within assigned region through the management of Business Development team. Work with Vice President of Business Development in the recruiting, appointing, and motivating of independent agents, brokers and direct sales staff, where applicable.

20% - Financial Results Management:
  • Develop business development goals, objectives and strategies.
  • Manage assigned budget for specific territories.

20% - Culture Management:
  • Represent the Company at various conferences, trade shows and networking events.
  • Collaborate with other Business Development leadership to ensure consistency in procedures, policies and standards.
  • Promote use of Company technology initiatives with agents and brokers.

10% - Strategic Planning:
  • Monitor the competitive activity and trends and make recommendations to stay competitive within the market.


Secondary Responsibilities:

5% - Perform special projects as directed by management.
  • Travel up to 50%.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business.
  • A minimum of ten years' Sales or Business Development experience within the professional liability insurance industry.
  • Insurance certification or demonstrated progress toward completion of one.
  • Proven leadership skills, excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills, strong interpersonal and relationship management skills required.
  • Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects.
  • Serve as an expert on HCPL products and a brand champion.
  • Advocate ProAssurance as carrier of choice.
  • Ability to facilitate group meetings.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Insurance agent's license in their respective state(s) if required.
