Growth in the US West Transportation Market is a critical component of GHD's overall strategy in the Americas!

The US West Region is looking to bring onboard a motivated Business Development (BD) Lead for Bridges / Bridge Practice Leader to lead all aspects of the expansion of GHD's Bridges practice throughout the Region.

Bridges have been part of the GHD Highways, Roads, and Bridges (HRB) Business Group (BG) since its initial roll-out. Our practice has matured to a level that requires acute attention to bridges and a specific strategy developed to take advantage of our connection to the highways/roads, rail, and trail arenas of the transportation market. GHD has exposure to these arenas through the Federal, State, Municipal and private Sectors.

As the BD Lead for Bridges, you will provide leadership for the pursuit of projects in the public and private sectors. You will also provide technical leadership for the delivery of structures projects for our clients throughout the US West. This position includes active participation in US West leadership forums and an opportunity to chart the course for strategic growth within the US West Region and the company. This position will be based out of one of our California offices.

Upon securing work from prime and subconsultant opportunities, the role will shift to the US West Business Group Leader for Bridges. GHD's Business Group Leaders are the major constituent of the US West Management Team (WMT).

Specific responsibilities in this role will include:

Strategy and Business Planning

  • Strategic business planning and budgeting for the Bridges practice
  • Participate in the development and execution of the growth strategy for the US West Transportation Market
  • Develop and manage annual tactical plans aligned with the overall strategic plan for the region and country
Winning Work
  • Build and foster effective relationships with key clients in Southern California such as LACMTA, SCRRA, OCTA, RCTC, SBCTA, VCTC and SANDAG. Also, collaborate with our HRB Business Group to help position for structural bridge opportunities with Caltrans and local County & Cities agencies.
  • Collaborate with Regional Transportation Market Lead, Sector Lead(s), and the Rail & Transit BG to implement appropriate business development, sales, and marketing strategies for the Bridges practice in the West Region of the U.S.
  • Participate in visibility activities including conferences
  • Seamlessly collaborate with leadership and resources across GHD to bring solutions to local clients
  • Approval of job/scope of work packages, budgets, and progress in accordance with the GHD Limits of Authority
Operations
  • Accountability for the operational performance of the US West Bridges Business Group
    • Provide support to Operations Manager and Finance Manager with performance metrics including chargeable effort, sell rate and variances,
  • Accountability for project financial performance for all projects owned by the US West Bridges Business Group
    • Provide support to Operations Manager and Finance Manager with performance metrics including variances and net labor multiplier
  • Work closely with Region Market Leaders and other BGLs to forecast market and trends and needs, to plan for re-training, recruitment, or technology gaps
  • Accountable for resource forecasting and monitoring of Bridges BG and responsible for supporting resource forecasting and monitoring of other BGs that support the Bridges BG with delivery resources.
  • Liaising with Talent Acquisition and manage the recruitment process and pipeline
  • To identify, monitor, manage and mitigate risks within the Bridges BG, including ensuring that Limits of Authority are being adhered to
Project Delivery:
  • Leading best practice project delivery, making key technical contributions to projects and coordinating the work of team members to deliver creative solutions
  • Embracing established project management best practices and advocate for the adoption of standard methodologies within your sphere of influence at GHD
  • Directing the project teams, administering contractual aspects of the project, and having a client facing role
  • Working with project directors, project managers, project teams, and BGLs in other BG's to improve job delivery skills within Business Group
  • Directing pricing, scoping and winning strategies for amendments and follow-on work
  • Accountable for resource management including allocation of people from other BGs providing delivery support to projects in Bridges BG
  • Ensure adherence to GHD's QA/QC plans including meeting established Quality KPIs
People:
  • Purpose-led communications with other Business Groups to inspire the team and enhance the Employee Experience (EX)
  • Develop and mentor senior leadership within the Business Group
  • Collaborate with and mentor our Young Professionals to provide experience and exposure to a wide variety of projects
  • Accountable for implementing quarterly check-ins in the Business Group including conducting the check-ins for direct reports
  • Collaborate with Market Leaders, Service Line Leaders and Project Managers within and outside the Region on work sharing and business development
  • Embrace the "One GHD" philosophy by collaborating with teams worldwide to share capabilities and project opportunities
  • Being accountable for the people management of the group including leading, inspiring and mentoring your team
  • Review and normalize performance reviews and salary adjustments for the BG
Skills, Experience and Qualification:
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Minimum 15 years of relevant experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with proven ability to develop, mentor and lead professional technical staff
  • Strong business development, capture planning, and marketing skills
  • Exceptional track record in client development and project execution for transportation projects
  • Strong relationship leadership skills and a real passion for developing people within GHD
  • Flexible and able to meet challenging deadlines
  • A self-starter with sound judgment and decisiveness
  • A standout colleague with a strong client focus
  • Outstanding interpersonal communication skills (both oral and written), with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization in a collaborative fashion
  • Proven supervisory experience in mentoring junior and senior engineers and technologists
  • Experience and/or formal training with project management best practices

Salary Range: $225,000 - $255,000 based on experience.
