Basic Function

The Business Development Manager - Industrial position is a dedicated position to develop strategic business growth in the Building & Construction and Sustainable Energy space leveraging existing and new innovative APS products. The space includes (but is not limited to) Building Components, Infrastructure, Wind/Solar Energy, Storage Batteries and other additional spaces as identified and dictated by emerging trends. The Business Development Manager (BDM) will be responsible for developing and implementing a strategic/tactical market growth plan and acting as a key subject matter expert for LyondellBasell across business segments. The BDM will be accountable for all facets of growth and will network with other key functions such as Sales, Marketing, Technical, Innovation, and Sustainability to deliver best-fit material solutions to the customer in support of the overall APS business and key market strategies.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Develop a strategic growth roadmap and point of view: Map out the Industrial (B&C, Sustainable energy) market spaces, identify potential applications and best-fit solutions with focus on Innovation and Sustainability to address material gap needs, identify potential customers and key OEMs/Brandowners, understand competitors and communicate growth roadmap to organization for feedback/buy-in.
  • Implement strategic growth roadmap (Tactical): Penetrate identified customers, develop/maintain relationships with key decision makers, and build/close a pipeline of opportunities for profitable growth.
  • Communicate and collaborate regularly with the Sales team and others as needed (i.e. ADTS, Marketing, etc. to give line of sight to where/how our products are, or will be, moving through the value chain to ensure timely responsiveness to customer needs.
  • Develop, implement and maintain a key account plan for designated top customers.
  • Manage pipeline of opportunities utilizing latest tools such as Salesforce.com and Accolade and keep all opportunities regularly updated, including actively participating in any stage gate management within Accolade for new product developments (Innovation).
  • Lead/participate in Sustainability initiatives within LYB, where applicable, based on this role being a core emerging market space in global sustainability.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required, Scientific, Technical or Business field is preferred
  • Ten years or more of relevant professional experience in a commercial (Sales, Marketing, Business Development or Product Management) role within the polymer industry, preferably having familiarity with key market spaces assigned
  • Cross-functional experience in the polymer industry in both Technical and Commercial roles is preferred.
  • Willingness to travel to meet with customers, innovation centers, HQ, etc. as needs dictate. Travel % based on candidate location - expect up to 50%.
  • Basic computer and software skills including Microsoft Office (i.e. Excel), Salesforce.com, etc.
  • High degree of analytical skills with a proficiency in business analysis (i.e. product and customer profitability, opportunity and value proposition analysis.
  • Technical expertise with polymers, specifically relating to meeting application performance requirements and material specifications
  • Strong communication skills, ability to interact with various levels of customer personnel.
  • Capability to manage activities across a matrix organization including ability to work with global business partners.
  • Able to analyze and implement corrective action plans to close business gaps.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with prioritization and decision making.
