VCA Arboretum View Animal Hospital has an opportunity available for a patient care coordinator to join our fast-paced, AAHA-accredited, 24-hour emergency/specialty referral practice in Downers Grove, Illinois. The applicants must be motivated and dedicated workers with a strong work ethic, excellent client communication skills and well demonstrated professionalism. Applicants must be able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, multi-task and demonstrate attention to detail while handling heavy caseload.
This unique position merges many of the responsibilities of a receptionist with those of a veterinarian assistant. In this position, you will work hand in hand with our ER/Critical Care department. Your responsibilities will include such things as client communication, record keeping, email and voice mail monitoring and patient status updates, and follow-up. The ideal candidate will have outstanding client service skills, be able to multi-task, work independently and have some veterinary experience.
The ER/Critical Care Coordinator position is full time; 4 days a week (Wednesday-Sunday).
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Requirements:
- Dependable attendance is required.
- Telephone and computer skills are necessary.
- Client communication and education - explaining disease processes and lab work results, administration of medications, follow-up care.
- Assisting technicians in nursing care - oral medications and animal handling.
- Efficiency - organize daily duties and procedures to best utilize staff's time.
- Flexibility - working to ensure that the job is done properly (willing to work beyond scheduled hours if necessary).
- Medical records - charges, medical history, medications, laboratory reports, etc.
- Assisting technicians in diagnostics - preparing samples and lab forms.
- Pharmacy - familiarity with drugs, creating labels, filling and phoning in prescriptions.
