ABOUT THE JOB

The CASAC (Substance Abuse Consultant) will function as the lead clinical consultant on substance abuse issues and the chief substance abuse assessment specialist for the Co-location Program in the borough office for substance abuse issues impacting families known to child welfare.

The CASAC Consultant is part of a multidisciplinary team that advises the staff on NYC Administration for Children's Services. The consultant will assist ACS staff by providing information about the substance use issues faced by parents and/or their children. The consultant will offer recommendations about appropriate treatment and community service options for clients who may be involved in cases which include abuse, maltreatment and/or neglect of children.

KEY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Consult with Child Protective Specialists (CPS) about their substance use concerns
  • Work with other disciplines to provide cross-consultations when necessary
  • Meet weekly productivity requirements
  • Attend child safety and other conferences
  • Educate ACS staff, including frontline Child Protective Specialists and their supervisors, about substance use challenges
  • Model for ACS staff, effective strategies for engagement assessment and problem solving, through direct contact with ACS clients with CPS present in the office and in the field
  • Provide CASAC assessments to clients served by ACS
  • Develop and deliver trainings to ACS staff designed to improve their knowledge about substance use issues
  • Maintain clear and concise documentation in ACS Connections case records
  • Maintain JB (Jewish Board) tracking log for requested and completed consults
  • Work with Team Coordinator to create relationships with outside service providers
  • Assist Team Coordinator in conducting ongoing needs assessments in the field office
  • Provide coverage for other offices needed
  • Attend weekly supervision
  • Work Hybrid Schedule

QUALIFICATIONS:

The Jewish Board is currently looking for talented Consultants of all cultures, religions, races, and gender expressions with the following qualifications:

EDUCATIONAL/TRAINING REQUIRED:

Credentialed CASAC II Licensed Master's Level Clinician with 2-4 years Substance Abuse work experience

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED/LANGUAGE PREFERENCE:
  • Knowledge of the child welfare system; clear understanding of the impact of Alcohol and other Substances on family life
  • Knowledge of mental health issues as co-occurring issues in substance use; understanding of racial and cultural forces impacting those affecting by substance abuse
  • Willingness to work the NYC Holiday Schedule
  • Bi-lingual a plus
