Responsibilities

The Schedistrar I is responsible for scheduling outpatient procedures, gathering patient, guarantor, and insurance information, and entering the information in the health information system. The Schedistrar I manages scheduling requests from both patients and physician offices via phone, fax, paper requisition, and other acceptable forms of communication. The Schedistrar I also provides visit-specific information to patients in preparation for their scheduled services and answers and triages patient questions and requests. Changing business needs can necessitate changes in work responsibilities.
Qualifications

Required Minimum Education

  • High school graduate or equivalent
Required Minimum Licensure
  • Certified Patient Account Representative (CPAR), Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) or equivalent. Certification must obtain within one year of hire date.
Required Minimum Experience
  • Minimum of 2-3 years front office and/or hospital experience
Required Minimum Skills
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology gained through education/experience
  • Prior customer service experience preferably in the medical field
  • Keyboarding skill/speed of 35 - 40 wpm and skill using mouse
  • Basic experience and knowledge of PC applications
  • Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations while working with the public and internal customers
  • Demonstrated competence in written and oral communications
  • Knowledge of patient confidentiality principles
  • Demonstrated skill in effectively managing multiple priorities
  • Skill in self-direction and processing new information
  • Demonstrated skill in effective problem solving and intervention
  • Translation and comprehension skills required to read medical orders
  • Demonstrated phone skills required to triage incoming calls and ability to take clear, concise, and accurate information
  • Ability and willingness to exhibit behaviors consistent with standards for performance improvement and organizational values (e.g., efficiency & financial responsibility, safety, partnership & service, teamwork, compassion, integrity, and trust & respect)
  • Ability and willingness to demonstrate and maintain competency as required for job title and the unit/area(s) of assignment
