About the Department

UChicago Student Wellness provides coordinated and comprehensive medical care, counseling, psychiatry, and health promotion services for students at the University of Chicago. Our talented and diverse staff work collaboratively to deliver high-quality, inclusive care with the highest standards of professionalism and student confidentiality. Our medical, counseling, psychiatry, and health promotion services are co-located in the University's beautiful, state-of-the-art Student Wellness Center, which opened in Autumn 2020 and enables our team of interdisciplinary providers to closely collaborate and provide integrated care and wellness programing. Our mental health services include, but are not limited to, diagnostic assessments; crisis assessment and intervention; individual, couples, and/or group therapy; medication management; academic skills counseling; and referral services. To support the health and wellbeing needs of our diverse student body, we offer support spaces, including support spaces for students of color, international students, and LGBTQ+ students, and wellness programming, including workshops on imposter issues, adjusting to college, managing stress, and diversity in the classroom. UChicago Student Wellness mental health staff include clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, advanced practice psychiatric nurses, clinical social workers, and administrators dedicated to providing culturally-informed mental health services. UChicago Student Wellness staff collaborate with offices and groups across campus, such as the University's Center for Identity + Inclusion, Office of Spiritual Life, Office of International Affairs, and Center for College Student Success, as well as Recognized Student Organizations, including cultural and ethnic and religious and spiritual groups. UChicago Student Wellness is a part of the University's Campus and Student Life division, which provides programs and services to all members of the University of Chicago Community and works to enrich the lives of students outside the classroom, contributing to a vibrant, collaborative, and diverse campus community that inspires excellence. Job Summary

The Case Manager supports the mission of SWC by helping students gain access to and coordinate mental health and counseling care. The Case Manager's primary focus is assisting students successfully access and navigate off-campus mental health services. Additional areas of focus include cross-service collaboration with Student Health (SH), Student Disability Services, and other campus partners . The Case Manager develops and maintains systems to assist with referral care coordination and provides direct clinical services as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Assists students in accessing mental health resources outside of SWC.
  • Develops and implements systems for follow-up with students who have been referred to community resources.
  • Develops and maintains a database of area providers and programs.
  • Cultivates relationships with area providers and programs.
  • Assists students with resource access outside of the Chicagoland area.
  • Conducts clinical diagnostic evaluation and assessment of clients, including urgent-care/crisis evaluations as-needed.
  • Provides goal-focused, time-limited psychotherapy as-needed.
  • Provides emergency and crisis intervention services during and after-hours as-needed.
  • Maintains timely and complete electronic documentation.
  • Provides consultation, training, and outreach to members of the University community both during and after-hours as-needed.
  • Participates as a member of the clinical team.
  • Participates in clinical and administrative staff meetings as appropriate.
  • Provides clinical supervision of trainees as needed and as appropriate.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality while handling sensitive situations.
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage data.
  • Ability to review, analyze, interpret, and/or prepare federal and state laws, rules, regulations, NASW Code of Ethics, policies and procedures as related to social work required.
  • Assesses the needs of individuals, performs adaptive tests and psychological screening, provides family counseling, and participates as a member of a developmental team. Identifies community and University resources and makes appropriate referrals. Documents developmental care in records.
  • Delivers emergency and crisis intervention services.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 5-7 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:
  • MSW from an accredited institution.

Experience:
  • Worked in a university counseling setting.
  • Conducted urgent-care/crisis evaluations.
  • Provided evidence-based, time-limited psychotherapy.
  • Provided services to under-represented minorities and first generation university student.
  • Clinical care and case management experience.

Licenses and Certifications:
  • Licensed or license-eligible in the State of Illinois for clinical social workers (LCSW).
