General Summary:

The Clinical Manager is responsible and accountable for leading and managing assigned departmental operations and associated functions, including:

  • Ensuring that the department operates in a manner that meets organizational goals and objectives.
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards, and provision of services consistent with hospital policy and professional/industry standards.
  • Participating in recruitment, retention, staff development, and performance evaluation and management.
  • Promoting collaborative relationships internally and externally,
  • Ensuring the highest quality and safety, including leading and/or actively participating in improvement and innovation initiatives.

As a member of the Holy Cross Health leadership team, the clinical manager functions as professional role model, resource and representative, consistent with and in support of the organization's Mission, Vision, Values, and Guiding Behaviors.

Minimum licensure/certification required (if applicable):

Current licensure as a Registered Nurse by the Maryland State Board of Nursing or a Compact State. BLS certified; additional life support training if applicable to department requirements. Department specific specialty or role certification required within six (6) months of hire.
  • PACU: Certified Post Anesthesia Nurse (CPAN) by American Society of Perianesthesia Nurses (ASPAN)
  • High Risk Perinatal/Labor & Delivery: Electronic Fetal Monitoring certification

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required:

Bachelor's degree in Nursing required; graduate professional degree or related field.

Minimum five (5) years related clinical experience in an acute care setting; two (2) years supervisory.

Candidate must be capable of:
  • Assessing departmental activities,, evaluating alternative approaches, implementing programs/practices, and evaluating outcomes.
  • Maintaining effective relationships with peers, other departmental staff and physicians.
  • Effectively managing human, material, capital, and financial resources
    Proficiency in English, written and verbal.

    Excellent communication skills, including ability to communicate complex and comprehensive information thoroughly and succinctly.

    Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft suite, data entry, retrieval, and interpretation.

A Clinical Manager at Holy Cross Health is expected to demonstrate ethical behavior and support the mission of Holy Cross Health, while possessing and utilizing excellent analytical and monitoring skills, fiscal responsibility and the ability to select and train employees who are capable of creating a desirable work environment. Clinical managers are expected to oversee 24-hour operations of their specific areas, ensuring the successful day-to-day function of the area, policy and objectives communication to staff, and that operational processes are staffed and monitored appropriately to ensure that quality, customer service, and financial performance are maintained.

Clinical managers, in conjunction with the Director or Sr. Director, are responsible for establishing departmental policies and procedures and adapting them as necessary to meet operational objectives. Clinical managers monitor their departmental results against budget, operational and strategic plans and determine how to improve performance against each. Effective cross-departmental cooperation and the ability to work with peers and senior management are essential for the clinical manager to obtain the necessary agreements and resources needed to meet both area specific and organizational objectives.

Safety Responsibilities:

Responsible for identifying all hazardous materials in the work area and all employees with potential exposure in order to provide them with the necessary personal protective devices and appropriate training. Responsible for assuring that all employees strictly adhere to all measures necessary for compliance with hospital safety policies and applicable Federal, State, and Agency safety-related requirements and regulations

Working Conditions:

Physical Requirements: Able to lift patients and patient care equipment up to 35 pounds. Must be able to push, pull and move patients, and patient care equipment.Must be able to bend body downward at waist and be able to kneel. Must be able to utilize computers for periods of time throughout shift. Must have endurance for long procedures and independently capable of assisting or performing procedures.

Visual Acuity: Required to have close visual acuity to perform activities, such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing computer terminals; extensive reading; visual inspection, involving small defects, small parts and operation of machines; using measurement devices;assembly at distances close to eyes.

Auditory Acuity: Must have sufficient acuity to identify alarms in noisy environments.

Environmental Conditions: Worker subject to hazards associated with hospital environment.

Reporting Relationships:

Reports to director or senior director; reports indirectly to the Chief Nursing Officer.
