We are seeking a CNC Prototyping Machinist to join our Research Prototype team. This person will be an expert in CNC programming, process development, and machining who enjoys working with engineers and designers to prototype ideas from start to finish with ownership of the entire process. The ideal candidate brings diverse perspectives stemming from broad experience with fabrication processes and prototyping methods not limited to CNC machining.The prototyping machinist will collaborate with engineers on part design to assist with fabrication, minimize lead times, and improve outcomes. A typical part will fit inside a 200 mm cube, while tolerances can be as tight as +/- 10 microns.The state-of-the-art prototyping facility includes 3 and 5-axis precision machining centers, water-jet, wire EDM, and multi-axis lathes. The CNC Prototyping Machinist is responsible for this equipment's safe setup, operation, and maintenance, including tooling, fixture specification, and procurement.

CNC Prototype Specialist Responsibilities:

• Responsibility for CAM programming and operation of all CNC and manual machining equipment
• CNC Machining of complex geometry components in metal and plastic
• Responsible for part quality and inspection
• Interact with design engineers on part functionality
• Meet time and schedule standards for assigned work
• Perform non-CNC tasks when necessary: non-CNC equipment operation, hand-work operations, saw-cut operations, etc

Minimum Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience operating advanced CNC machine tools in a prototyping environment
• Self-driven and experienced participating in a range of needs in the shop, such as inspection and deburr
• Experience with CAM software and CNC programming (Fusion 360, HyperMILL, NX)
• Experience working autonomously with minimal supervision and direction
• Experience with CAD software and fixture design (Fusion 360, NX, Solidworks)
• Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with picking up CAD and CAM software used in designing and building things
• Experience with 5-axis milling equipment and pallet system management
• Experience with multi-axis, multi-channel turning centers
• Experience with pallet changing systems
• Experience optimizing processes through automation
• Experience with DFM (design for manufacturing)
• Experience outsourcing for manufacturing
• Firm understanding of CNC programs including formatting and editing
• Experience with complete ownership of scheduling, execution, and final delivery of prototyping tasks
