This is what you will do:

Alexion- Astrazeneca rare disease Gemonics medicine department is seeking a highly motivated Co-op to join our gene therapy vector engineering and production group. This position will focus on designing elegant and efficient Adeno associate virus(AAV) vector tool for delivering therapeutic cassette, at the same time apply the cutting-edge vector production technologies to realize mass production. We offer 1:1 training in a variety of tasks involved in the AAV and gene therapy field and provide individuals a great opportunity to learn and grow in a dynamic team.

You will be responsible for:

  • Manufactures research grade rAAV vectors utilizing suspension cell culture in shaker flasks.
  • Executes processes for purification of rAAV utilizing various techniques.
  • Performs analytical tests such as qPCR, ddPCR for characterization of rAAV vectors, etc.
  • Performs molecular cloning and giga prep for creating the constructs for vectorization.
  • Fills out batch records, and accurately completes documentation associated with preclinical manufacturing.
  • Monitors the plasmid supply and control the quality for plasmids.
  • Provides technical support to early development when appropriate.
  • Participate in project meetings and conduct work reports.

You will need to have:

  • Hands-on experience in biology lab.
  • Experience with adherent or suspension cell culture.
  • Experience with PCR and qPCR
  • Ability to work independently with confidence

  • Strong verbal communications skills and ability to excel in a fast-paced environment
  • The duties of this role are generally conducted in an lab environment. As is typical of a lab-based role, employees must be able, with or without an accommodation to: lift/carry 15/30 pounds unassisted/assisted; work comfortably in a controlled environment with and around biological, infectious, and hazardous materials; gown/degown PPE; use a computer; engage in communications via phone, video, and electronic messaging; engage in problem solving and non-linear thought, analysis, and dialogue; collaborate with others; maintain general availability during standard business hours.

We would prefer for you to have:

  • 1 year experience in the biology lab.
  • AAV related biology knowledge
  • Gene and cell therapy knowledge
