This is what you will do:

Alexion AstraZeneca rare disease genomics medicine department is seeking a highly motivated Co-op to join our preclinical pharmacology group. This position will drive pipeline projects through vector evaluation, target validation, and candidate selection in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo studies. You will be responsible for:

  • Perform in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo studies to understand the mechanisms of action.
  • Sample processing includes but is not limited to cell and tissue DNA, RNA extractions for NGS, and barcode downstream analysis.
  • Assist in construct design, molecular cloning, and vector characterization.
  • Perform biochemical assay (e.g., ELISA, Western Blot, enzymatic kinetics) of biological and tissue specimens from preclinical studies.
  • Perform analytical tests such as qPCR and ddPCR for characterization of rAAV vectors, etc.
  • Perform indel analysis for gene-editing programs.
  • Perform efficacy studies to support the preclinical development of genomic medicine candidates.
  • Participate in project meetings and conduct work reports.
  • Keep accurate records of research activities and experimental details.

You will need to have:

  • Hands-on experience in a biology lab.
  • Experience in molecular biology techniques (cloning, ELISA, Western blot, PCR/qPCR/ddPCR, etc.) is strongly desired.

  • Proficiency in basic software (e.g., MS Office) and strong data analysis skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with confidence.
  • Strong verbal communication skills and ability to excel in a fast-paced environment.

We would prefer for you to have:

  • 1 year experience in the biology lab.
  • AAV-related biology knowledge.
  • Gene and cell therapy knowledge

  • The duties of this role are generally conducted in an lab environment. As is typical of a lab-based role, employees must be able, with or without an accommodation to: lift/carry 15/30 pounds unassisted/assisted; work comfortably in a controlled environment with and around biological, infectious, and hazardous materials; gown/degown PPE; use a computer; engage in communications via phone, video, and electronic messaging; engage in problem solving and non-linear thought, analysis, and dialogue; collaborate with others; maintain general availability during standard business hours.
