Do you want to help communities build resilience before or after disasters? Our mitigation professionals are directly engaged in helping our clients identify equitable mitigation, adaptation, and resilience solutions; build local capacity to support community hardening; and navigate complex federal grant programs to receive mitigation funding. Selected candidate(s) will participate in and/or lead project initiatives for federal, state, and/or local clients, with tasks that include outreach to under resourced communities; review of plans, documents, manuals, policies, and procedures; identification of hazards, community vulnerabilities, and potential mitigation projects; development and/or review of federal grant applications; program monitoring; and overall project management.
Our Hazard Mitigation Team is looking for professionals local to Sacramento, California and / or professionals willing to travel across the State of California to collaborate with stakeholders on mitigation projects and programs.
In this role, candidates must have:

  • At least three years (3) of experience in emergency management or supporting community disaster preparedness, response, and/or recovery.
  • Relevant experience in community resilience, mitigation planning, and/or disaster recovery programs. Direct experience in the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Hazard Mitigation Assistance (HMA) Program a plus.
  • Strong project management and coordination experience, to include developing a project plan, managing a team, tracking progress, and presenting project updates.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills to engage stakeholders (local and state) and produce technically sound deliverables with little oversight.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products.
  • A bachelor's degree.
Candidates might also have:
  • Consulting experience in the public, private, or non-profit sector.
  • Experience working with disadvantaged communities and equity initiatives.
  • Experience developing hazard mitigation plans.
  • Relevant certifications, such as Certified Planner, Project Management Professional, Certified Floodplain Manager, or Certified Emergency Manager.
  • A master's degree pertinent to city and regional planning, public administration and policy, business administration, civil or environmental engineering, emergency management, or similar field. The required bachelor's degree should be in the same discipline(s).
