Job Description

This position coordinates the AmeriCorps Seniors Fostergrandparent Program (ACS) in Pima & Pinal counties for NAU'sCenter for Service and Volunteerism:

The Foster Grandparent Program (FGP) engages senior volunteers age 55 and older and low income with schools, Head Start Centers, or other agencies serving children. Foster Grandparents volunteer one-on- one or in small groups with children who need extra support to succeed. Foster Grandparent volunteers receive a stipend of $3.00 an hour, mileage reimbursement, and other benefits.

This position recruits, selects, orients, and provides support for AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers. The help to develop partnerships throughout Pima & Pinal County that support ACS programming. They ensure the implementation of policies and practices, as well as assists in conducting oversight, review, and analysis of the effectiveness and compliance of the program(s).

Essential Functions

Volunteer Training & Management - 30%

  • Recruit, select, support, retain, monitor, and recognize AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers to meet program goals and within policy.
  • Plan and lead monthly in-service training events for the volunteers including identifying and inviting speakers, securing a location, and communicating details to attendees.
  • Organize special events, including but not limited to, volunteer recognition celebrations and fundraising events.
  • Reviews partner agency and volunteer applications, and screens applicants for positions.
  • Introduces new volunteers to partner agency staff.
  • Trains and advises volunteers, participants, external stakeholders or constituents, and/or community partners on program guidelines and details.

Program Support - 35%
  • Distributes collects, and processes applications, forms, and documents related to the programs.
  • Acts as a liaison with AmeriCorps Senior volunteers, program partners, staff, and funders in facilitating program objectives
  • Prepares reports and records on program activities, progress, status, or other special reports to a supervisor.
  • Develops, compiles, and writes communications and promotional literature for distribution such as newsletters, brochures, flyers, or social media posts.
  • Represent the Center for Service and Volunteerism at AmeriCorps Seniors meetings, conferences, and other events.
  • Assists in the development of program content; monitors program metrics and performance; maintains operation of the program locally.
  • Responsible for spending within allocated local budget for program expenditures; advises supervisor if a need arises for additional funds.
  • Contributes to the development of program policies and standards.
  • Ensures program compliance with all applicable university, state, federal, or other laws, rules, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Maintains records of program participants and program data, which may include inputting or updating data in a database.
  • Acts as the main point of contact for program participants and other program stakeholders or constituents, including telephone and email communications; answers questions regarding the program; provides conflict resolution if needed.
  • Researches, summarizes, and analyzes information regarding program participation; calculates statistics and compiles data to prepare special and/or recurring reports.
  • May supervise or oversee student or temporary employees.
  • May be responsible for the coordination of events, service projects, and/or recognition in relation to program(s).
  • May schedule and participate in meetings or committees on behalf of the program(s).

Community Engagement & Outreach - 30%
  • Orient new partner sites and perform annual site visits.
  • Establishes and maintains partnerships and connections with community stakeholders and organizations.
  • Fields questions from partners and volunteers, providing problem-solving and technical assistance with issues as they arise.
  • Promotes AmeriCorps Seniors positions with a variety of recruitment, marketing, and outreach strategies.
  • Delivers presentations to communicate information about the program(s).

Other - 5%
  • Other duties as assigned.


    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in relevant field.
    • 2-4 years of relevant experience.
    • Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.


    Preferred Qualifications

    • Bilingual (English/Spanish).
    • Experience with AmeriCorps Seniors programs.
    • Experience working with older adults.
    • Experience working with volunteer programs.


    Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

    • Knowledge of rules, regulations, guidelines, and procedures related to program area.
    • Knowledge of organizational practices and principles.
    • Program coordination and execution.
    • Coordination of activities, evaluating data, and establishing priorities.
    • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams).
    • Online meeting platforms such as Zoom, WebEx, and Teams.
    • Training (developing and delivering).
    • Works independently.
    • Exercises good judgement and professionalism.
    • Communicates effectively.
    • Promotes a diverse, inclusive environment.


    COVID-19 Vaccine Requirement

    Background Information

    Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, an employment history verification and a degree verification (in some cases) prior to employment. You may also be required to complete a fingerprint background check. Additionally, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying new employees' right to work in the United States. Finally, each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities.     Salary

    Salary range begins at $41,421. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

    FLSA Status

    This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.

    Benefits

    This is a Classified Staff (CLS) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System; paid vacation and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified dependents. More information on benefits at NAU is available on the Human Resources benefits website. Classified Staff employees are in a probationary status for their first six months at NAU. NAU is a tobacco and smoke-free campus. Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan). New employees are eligible for benefits on the first day of the pay period following their enrollment, after their employment date. Employees will have 31 days from their start date to enroll in benefits. Additionally, new employees will begin participating in the Arizona State Retirement System, and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it, on the first of the pay period following 6 months after the new employee's start date.
