Basic Job Functions:

The Nucor Steel Lexington Engineering Intern responsibilities include, but are not limited to, taking care of our customers by executing the division's safety, quality, cost, productivity, and profitability objectives.This includes working closely with the production and maintenance teams to identify and resolve technical issues encountered during commissioning, ensuring timely and effective solutions. Conduct root cause analysis to determine the underlying causes of issues and develop strategies to address them efficiently. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess current processes and identify areas for improvement in terms of efficiency, reliability, and quality. Design and implement improvements to existing systems and processes, utilizing your engineering expertise and innovative thinking. Research and evaluate automation, AI, and Industry 4.0 technologies suitable for operations, considering factors such as cost-effectiveness, scalability, and compatibility. Develop and implement automation solutions to optimize workflows, increase productivity, and minimize manual intervention. Utilize data analysis techniques to extract insights from operational data, identifying patterns, trends, and opportunities for optimization. Provide decision support to management based on data-driven recommendations, contributing to continuous improvement efforts. Maintain accurate documentation of troubleshooting activities, improvement initiatives, and automation implementations, ensuring comprehensive records are kept for future reference. Prepare regular progress reports and presentations to communicate findings, outcomes, and recommendations to relevant stakeholders. The Engineering Intern, is expected to work a flexible schedule, including scheduled and unscheduled overtime and weekends.

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's of Engineering program.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarization with automation, AI, and/or Industry 4.0 principles.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or C++.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Communication skills.
  • Organization skills.
