The Network for College Success (NCS), at the Crown School for Social Work, Policy, and Practice ensures college readiness and success for all students by translating research into practice and supporting leaders to organize their schools for improvement. NCS provides professional learning and support to school and district leaders and helps them focus on what matters most for high school students. NCS supports adults within and across schools to build their capacity to lead change, improve instruction, and support student transitions in and out of high school. NCS envisions high schools that continuously cultivate collaboration, powerful learning, and a culture of high achievement to ensure postsecondary success for all students.

Job Summary

The Continuous Improvement Equity Coach is an integral part of a coaching team at the Network for College Success focused on improving students' daily lived experiences in and out of the classroom and with an ongoing commitment to equity stance work and learning. Using research-based frameworks, such as the NCS' Freshman Success Framework, the Continuous Improvement Equity Coach will work in partnership with school-based leaders to develop effective programs and approaches to improve freshman success using Continuous Improvement practices. The goal is to develop systems, conditions, and capacity for increasing student course performance in the freshman year, evidenced by research to be the most predictive indicator for graduation from high school and success in college.

Responsibilities

  • Works collaboratively with our partner schools and districts to develop processes, structures, and tools for supporting student success.
  • Builds partnerships with identified school Principals, grade level, and/or teacher collaboration teams to improve grade-level on- track rates; improve student course performance as reflected in GPA; and increase college readiness and access indicators for students.
  • Uses the NCS Freshman Success to guide school-based coaching and support of work, including: team development; goals and plan development and implementation; systems for monitoring and addressing student progress and supports.
  • Coaches freshman team and Freshman Success team leaders to build their capacity to successfully perform their role in leading school change; effectively facilitating collaboration, data analysis, and problem solving; and creating conditions that support overall student success.
  • Co-designs and co-facilitates professional learning around instruction and/or freshman success for NCS partner schools and more broadly as part of NCS' professional development offerings.
  • Provides coaching to support effective instructional practices in classrooms aligned to the school's instructional efforts.
  • Maintains ongoing communication with identified school staff and maintains record and documentation of contacts and progress.
  • Coordinates, co-plans, and co-facilitates professional learning with National Equity-Based Leaders; National Leading Professional Learning Communities; Anti-Racist Leaders Network; and National Freshman Success Institute.
  • Supports project management; consulting work with districts; Freshman Success for Equity Improvement Network.
  • Under the direction of senior leadership, develops programs and relationships to advance program initiatives.
  • Coordinates program initiatives, ensuring unity of focus and purpose.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in education, or related field.
  • Master's degree in education.

Experience:
  • Experience forming and facilitating teacher teams.
  • Minimum five years teaching experience at the middle or high school level.
  • Experience with freshman academies or similar structures.

Licenses and Certifications:
  • Valid driver's license required.

Technical Skills or Knowledge:
  • Integrate and effectively utilize technology for professional productivity, including word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet software (Microsoft Office and Google Suite).
  • Excellent data analysis and problem-solving skills.

  • Capable of exercising sound judgment, tact, courteousness, reliability, and employing good decision-making skills. Strong background in curriculum, instruction and assessment.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills

  • Eagerness to participate in ongoing professional development and team- and self-evaluation.

  • Strong facilitation skills and demonstrated knowledge of adult learning principles.
