The Position

The Cost Accountant will be reporting directly to the Controller of National Standard at the Niles, Michigan location. This position contributes to the profitability of the company through the provisions of financial and business management, encompassing the ideas of business planning, control, reporting, and the analysis and interpretation of business results as they relate to the strategic and operating objectives. Works with Operations to further develop the company's costing system to enhance profitability as well as incorporate newly acquired business into the costing system.

Job Description

Primary Responsibilities

  • Timely produces financial reporting, financial cost analysis, and interprets financial information
  • Work with Production to ensure Bills of Materials (BOM)are accurate and up to date.
  • Develop standards for the budget and provides reporting and variance explanations
  • Analyze actual labor, material, and overhead costs
  • Prepare and forecast monthly reporting requirements
  • Develop key metrics and report on them regularly
  • Physical inventory annually
  • Work with external auditors on information requests
  • Develops costing portion of annual budget
  • Implements and maintains internal controls for operations, sales and finance
  • Create weekly reports that ensure accuracy of costing
  • Performs other tasks or duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • 2-3 years in a Cost Accountant role
  • Manufacturing environment experience a plus

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds at times
