How will you make an impact?

The Life Sciences Group (LSG) and BioProduction Group (BPG) Cost Accounting Team in Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking a Cost Accountant in Carlsbad, CA. The Cost Accountant will be a key partner and support all LSG and BPG businesses in ensuring that new inventory is reported correctly on the Balance Sheet. You will be the leader of all inventory processes at our Bothell (WA), Eugene (OR), and US SERA plants.

What will you do?

  • Lead all costing activities for the Bothell, Eugene, and US SERA Plants, including the following:
    • Perform the monthly close for all inventory activities.
    • Review and help to explain monthly results with the Bothell and Eugene Finance teams.
    • Monitor work order variances, absorption, and PPV each week.
    • Lead the plants in rolling standard costs, including the calculation of standard rates.
    • Provide E&O support and analysis for the plants, and record entries to adjust the reserve each quarter.
    • Observe and support the Cycle Count program for the plants; establish robust cycle count processes and controls.
  • Perform monthly update of net inventory by site Power BI Dashboard and report out to Ops Finance and Supply Chain teams' leadership for all LSSPL divisions (BID, GSD, CSD, BCD, PPA, and SUD).
  • Work with Systems team to ensure accurate allocation of month end supplemental inventory in HFM for Legacy LSG entities (E1 and SAP sites).
  • Provide Inventory and OCOGS QoQ flux reports and ensure commentary is received from all entities. Present inventory portion to Cost Accounting and Controllership teams.
  • Calculate and update global E1 ABC cycle count codes on an annual basis.
  • Support Corporate Risk Management team by providing inventory values by site/building on an annual basis.
  • Serve as backup for new product costing for North America.
  • Support the LSG and BPG Cost Accounting Team in the bi-annual Global Cost Roll. Build reporting templates and perform ad hoc analyses as assigned by the Finance Director, Ops Finance, or the businesses.
  • Perform other related duties as required and/or assigned.
How will you get here?

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or relevant discipline
Experience
  • 3+ years of experience is required, preferably supporting manufacturing
  • Experience in E1 and SAP ERP systems is required, preferably in Costing
  • Experience in using the Macola ERP is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Proficiency in Excel advanced formulas and PowerPoint
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to interface effectively at all levels and demonstrate good judgment, and tact and diplomacy with internal customers. Self-initiative, strong organization skills, and a positive attitude are helpful.
  • Experience working in a matrixed organization is preferred.
  • Minimal travel required.

Compensation and Benefits
The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $85,000.00-$120,000.00.
