The Credit Analyst performs credit and collection activities related to assigned customer portfolio. This includes maintaining customer relationships, performing credit evaluations and making credit limit recommendations, identifying collection issues, developing and recommending payment agreements, maintaining customer account reconciliation, forecasting customer payments, and preparing status reports.

Credit Analysis

  • Review established credit lines as required. Ensure Credit Limits are supported and justified by available information. Perform financial statement analysis and interpret credit re-ports and trade reports, review new account Credit Applications and verify Bank & Trade References, Tax status
  • Make credit line recommendations commensurate with approval level
  • Review credit holds/suspended orders to facilitate order flow
  • Advise appropriate collectors and sales of what is required for the order to be released
  • Release orders or escalate to management according to established approval authorities
  • Activate new accounts
  • Update and maintain Credit Limits, terms, and risk codes based on the credit file and history.
  • Monitor credit limit review dates as appropriate

Collections

  • Maintain timely collections on the assigned portfolio
  • Negotiate payment to enforce the terms of sale and ensure prompt payment to prevent credit holds due to past due balances
  • Research and Resolve outstanding disputes and deductions
  • Prepare journal entries to match and clear invoices, deductions, credits, and payments

Sales Communication

  • Continuous documented communication with sales regarding forecasted sales and credit line, exposure, past due balances, and disputes. Explain risk position and recommend account strategy
  • Advise sales of problem accounts and any issues that are impacting our ability to release orders to a customer

Reporting

  • Assist with preparation of monthly Bad Debt Analysis
  • Make recommendations of accounts that should be considered for specific reserve to ensure adequate bad debt allowance coverage
  • Monitor insurance coverage versus credit exposure and make recommendations on credit insurance coverage. Assist in quarterly and annual true-up reporting


Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent experience) in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration
  • Minimum 3 years' credit analysis, collection and business experience
  • Advanced Excel skills and SAP AR and OM modules knowledge

Other Required Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability to understand and interpret financial statements and ratios as well as Credit and Trade Reports
  • Knowledge of KPIs around customer payment history
  • Ability to write sound financial assessments and credit limit recommendations for our customers and explain our position to non-financial colleagues such as salespeople, other team members, and management

Preferred Knowledge/Abilities

  • Bilingual English and Spanish is a plus
  • Knowledge of collections software and customer portals is a plus
