Facebook is seeking an experienced Data Center Production Operations Technical Lead Engineer to join the Data Center Site Operations team. The Production Operations Technical Lead is responsible for driving the execution of standardized workflows, triage unexpected anomalies and identify opportunities to scale. This role will focus on driving tooling and automation processes that scale quality hardware diagnostics, and automated remediation of server hardware. Key responsibilities include performing deep dives and analyzing complex technical issues impacting the fleet, ranging from software to hardware failures and collaborating effectively with cross-functional engineer teams. This person should enjoy working in a fast-paced environment where adaptability and flexibility will be key to their success. We seek an individual who can quickly absorb and understand the technical challenges of subject matter experts, local site operations teams, and can set informed priorities and direction from relevant stakeholders.
- Represent a project or initiative as a technical resource for Production Operations for questions, concerns or other technical matters
- Lead a project team of data center engineers across multiple data center locations to solve complex issues that affect the server fleet availability
- Ability to see the big picture from leadership and implement the vision through global standards and workflows at the local data center site
- Mentoring and developing engineers and technicians in these global initiatives
- Collaborating with other teams in data center sites around the globe to evolve and optimize processes and approaches in a globally consistent way that allows Facebook to scale and grow effectively
- Identify and support the creation of documentation for the global data center knowledge base
- Implement process improvements and inform best practices in data center operations
- BS or BA in technical field or commensurate experience
- 10+ years experience in large-scale data center environment working with cross functional teams
- Experience working across a diverse global organization and building partnerships with cross functional teams inside and outside of the organization
- Experience triaging and debugging hardware platforms
- Experience in processing and analyzing large sets of data
- Proven knowledge of server and storage platforms, principles, technologies, protocols, and standards
- Experience managing multiple concurrent projects and managing timelines
- Experience working independently within a multi-disciplinary team of hardware and operations engineers
- Experience working with Linux or Unix Operating systems
- Proven technical skills, experience creating documentation for users of all levels
- Large-scale data center environment experience, including deep system knowledge of Linux, Server Hardware, and Data Center automation
- Bash, PHP, Python, or Perl scripting experience
- Experience in data center system and process automation
- Leadership presence and presentation skills
