Summary:

This position will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of the Master Patient Index. This Associate will accomplish this through the analysis of the ARGO work queues to identify medical records to be merged within a facility, or linked across facilities, regions, and other source EMRs. This Associate will also be responsible for resolving overlay errors, assisting with complex data clean up and/or other activities related to chart correction within the EMR. In addition, Associate will answer incoming calls, email messages related to duplicate numbers and other duties as assigned.

  • Maintain integrity of the enterprise-wide Master Patient Index to ensure patient health information resides under a unique EMPI number
  • Performs analytical reviews of clinical and demographic information utilizing all applicable computer systems to verify that the duplicate numbers were assigned to the same person to ensure patient safety is not compromised
  • Collaborates with Ministry HIM departments if offsite stored records need to be retrieved
  • Replies timely to all incoming calls and/or emails related to duplicates
  • Assist with the overlay resolution errors and any complex data clean-up and/or other activities related to chart correction within EHRs. Notifies individuals required to reconcile the medical record. Follow-up with all parties until corrections have been completed or reconciled.
  • Communicate effectively with EMPI team as well as clerical, technical, managerial and executive level Associates as needed
  • Demonstrate advanced critical thinking, reasoning, problem solving and decision-making ability
  • Merges or unmerges as necessary, the clinical and demographic information in the source EMR
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on all EMPI Specialist function to other Associates

Requirements:

  • Bachelor or Associates degree in HIMpreferred
  • Or equal applicable experience
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience in related position
  • Previous EMPI work preferred
  • RHIT/RHIA or eligible preferred
