Design Engineer

As a Design Engineer, with the Large Power Systems Division (LPSD), you will have the opportunity to direct and contribute to the concept, development, and design of complex components, subsystems, or processes while strengthening your analytical skills and mastery of engineering concepts. You will partner with and provide technical guidance to global teams. You will contribute to the planning and delivery of projects, continually learn, and stay abreast of innovative technology, and broaden your professional network.

This position is within the Air Systems team with responsibility for the design and project management of tasks related to Large Diesel and Gas Engines, specifically intake & exhaust system components. Projects will span both new product design and current product updates and require high technical proficiency and a sense of urgency.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Conceives and provides practical product design applications using complex technical principles
  • Collaborate with other engineering teams to define and meet product requirements
  • Prepares concept, design, and development and feasibility studies of complex engineering projects
  • Develop and maintain detailed project and validation plans
  • Coordinates product test with proven design and prototype build-ups and test areas
  • Provides guidance to other engineers responsible for portions of the product project to ensure development schedules are met
  • Evaluates, defines, and resolves design and manufacturing problems
  • Uses technical expertise and product knowledge to support the issue resolution process by interfacing with Test and Evaluation, Service, Plant personnel, suppliers, and consultants
  • Collaborate on design and validation with global suppliers
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in an accredited Engineering curriculum and 1 year of progressive work experience OR Associates degree in Engineering and 3 years of relevant work experience OR 5 years of relevant work experience
  • Component and/or system level design experience
Top Candidates will also have:
  • Project experience in NPI (New Product Introduction), CPI (Current Product Improvement), or Cost Reduction
  • Experience collaborating with suppliers utilizing the APQP process
  • Proficiency with Creo (or equivalent) and Teamcenter
  • Knowledge for applying simulation tools in product development (FEA, CFD)
  • Project experience in NTI (New Technology Introduction)
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Location of this position is in Lafayette, IN
  • This position may require less than 10% travel.
