Job Summary

The Director, Data Lifecycle Management (DLM) within Data Stewardship (DS) for Data & Analytics (D&A) is accountable for partnering with the Sr. Director of Data Stewardship (DS) to design and shape a data lifecycle management capability across domains (R&D, Commercial, & Corporate).

This role will ensure that day-to-day processing of 3rd party data assets operates smoothly while simultaneously overseeing the creation of new processes and tools to build and shape the DLM capability taking into account the needs of key stakeholders and optimize the manageability, flexibility, and utility of Otsuka's data warehouse.

This position will focus on establishing and ensuring adherence to a range of data activities including: data acquisition through archiving; defining core operational and data methodologies; day-to-day data processing; support for data access tools, and supporting internal data customers.

The Director, DLM must be comfortable interacting with and influencing senior members of the organization, standing up new enterprise capabilities, and mentoring senior and junior staff.

Job Description

Reporting to the Sr. Director DS, this leader will become a driving force of change and provide leadership, oversight and strategic direction for building an enterprise wide data lifecycle management capability.

  • Be an active and strategic voice on the DS Management team, driving our core data vision forward
  • Design, build and drive overall strategy, methodology, and roadmap for the processes and tools required to produce and maintain our core data assets
  • Synthesizing the needs of key stakeholders into clear roadmaps and execution plans
  • Performance management of Data Lifecycle Manager/s
  • Constantly keep up with industry data trends
  • Serve as a point of escalation for data lifecycle management activities and work closely with other DS Leadership Team members to improve DLM processes
  • Facilitate an enterprise wide DLM framework with emphasis on modifications to organizational behavior, policies and standards, guiding principles, metrics, related tools and data architecture
  • Serve as a liaison between Business and Functional areas and technology to ensure that data related business requirements are clearly defined, communicated and well understood and considered as part of operational prioritization and planning
  • Support and leverage enterprise data catalog and information maps, including authoritative systems, owners
  • Work closely with the Head of Data Quality & Standards to support and assist in the development and implementation of data quality standards, data protection standards and adoption requirements across the enterprise
  • Define indicators of performance and quality metrics and ensure compliance with data related policies, standards, roles and responsibilities, and adoption requirements
  • Work closely with the Data Scouting and Relationship lead role/s to coordinate external data sources to eliminate redundancy and streamline the expense related to those services
  • Work closely with the Data Scouting and Relationship lead role/s to identify new business opportunities pertaining to the use of information assets to achieve efficiency and effectiveness in the marketplace / represent data as a strategic business asset at the Senior Management table
  • Function as a knowledge base and resource to project teams.
  • Model and coach engagement best practices that enable thought partnership and engender a collaborative environment with robust debate; Furthering the partnership and impact of Data Stewardship at Otsuka
  • Foster a culture that focuses on the achievement of goals and personal accountability, through the setting of objectives and expectations, monitoring to plan, the redirection as needed and the celebration of achievements
  • Foster a culture that embraces the strategic use of data into decision making enabling greater business outcomes

Qualifications

Required
  • Experience working within the pharmaceutical industry and experience leading teams within data operations/data management environments.
  • A passion for solving complex system and data challenges and desire to thrive in a constantly innovating and changing environment
  • Significant experience with Commercial third-party data assets
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through ambiguity and build / grow a capability
  • Experience driving large, complex change efforts and to drive results through influence, persuasion and relationships.
  • Highest personal and professional integrity and strong work ethics
  • Ability to articulate vision of transformation efforts and a sense of mission
  • Willingness to take charge and provide direction
  • Results orientation, willingness to commit to a direction and drive operations to completion

  • Up to 10% travel is required based upon business needs.


Education / Experience
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum 10-12 years data related experience within the pharmaceutical industry.
  • 3-5 years of leadership responsibilities.

Preferred
  • Masters in Computer Science, MIS, Information Management or related.
  • Line and performance management experience.
