Primary Job Purpose

A strong and proactive data governance function is paramount to maintaining our consumers' trust by protecting their data and, simultaneously, providing our business partners with data that's accessible, complete and reliable, when and how they need it.

The Director of Enterprise Data Governance is a seasoned data governance leader responsible for expanding Cambia's Data Governance programs while elevating the practices of Information Management, Data Privacy & Access, and Data Quality & Usability. They will define and execute a Data Governance strategy that ensures high-quality data assets, adherence to privacy regulation & other data policies, standards, and practices, and provide management of core data assets aligned with Cambia's enterprise data strategy.

The Director of Enterprise Data Governance will serve as an information domain expert and liaison to internal and external business groups. They will collaborate with Cambia leadership to establish and drive programs across all company business functions, technology, legal, privacy, ethics, information security, and compliance while establishing metrics for success and the communication of Data Governance value throughout the organization.

General Functions and Outcomes

  • Lead and grow a team of Data Governance experts who will advance data governance's maturity across the enterprise. Advance knowledge of business terms and uses through the entire enterprise and establish business ownership of data. Responsible for the enterprise business semantic layer and setting best practice Governance standards.
  • Lead the implementation and maintenance of enterprise-level data governance, including, but not limited to, the creation of information models, standard business vocabularies (taxonomies, ontology), enterprise master data and metadata frameworks, and processes for managing reference data.
  • Responsible for human capital management of direct reports. Encourage employee growth and realization of potential through mentoring, coaching, encouraging, and recognizing employee accomplishments.
  • Responsible for the operations of quality of data, monitoring, triaging, and resolving critical issues. Create shared business ownership through a stewardship program powered by data quality technology.
  • Responsible for enablement of shared business ownership in enterprise data literacy by creating data dictionaries powered by technology and jointly curated with business data stewards.
  • Responsible for governance of a data syndication strategy, ensuring visibility and management of data movement across the enterprise
  • Create, manage, and facilitate a Data Governance process to identify and understand critical data issues in terms of business impact/risk/opportunity and drive issue resolution.
  • Use the governance practice to communicate known data issues and opportunities, and surface suboptimal data management practices to executive leadership.
  • Partner with business leadership to champion the business strategy through the data. Work with business leaders to scope any people, process, or technology change necessary to meet business needs.
  • Oversee a centralized service for sourcing external data to ensure quality, traceability, timeliness, usability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Set objectives and priorities collaboratively, align business rules with business leadership, including facilitating the decision-making process where needed.
  • Serve as a change agent within the organization for data governance and the value it brings to the business as well as the overall enterprise.


Minimum Requirements

  • Successful track record leading high-performance data governance teams, strategies, and programs that unlock trusted data and democratize data management technologies to establish a data-driven culture across the enterprise.
  • Passion for leading and guiding others in their efforts to leverage data and intelligence across the business enterprise.
  • Proven track record of accelerating an organization's information maturity level across divisional boundaries, preferably within a complex healthcare data environment.
  • Experience leading the creation and delivery of an enterprise data governance roadmap to include definition, tracking, and success metrics communication.
  • Experience leading Data Governance programs that promote and govern adherence to data management policies and processes, establish share data quality ownership, and enable pervasive data literacy.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and drive relevant data stewardship operating models that bring together the interests of data owners, stewards, and custodians.
  • Demonstrated experience monitoring master data, metadata, reference data, and data quality initiatives to establish synergies for data governance-related projects. This includes identifying and documenting master data rules of engagement and uses, data integration and impact, metadata content and flows, and data quality requirements and standards to prevent problems and establish adherence with regulations.
  • Demonstrated mastery of data quality, data governance, data de-identification, master data management, and data analytic practices and principles.
  • Fully developed customer-facing skills and experience; the ability to sit down, discuss trade-offs, build confidence and deliver on stated commitments to both internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage and navigate within a matrix environment, motivating, inspiring and supporting business partners, team members, and management to successfully achieve objectives.
  • Ability to be agile and nimble vs. creating and executing on the perfect plan.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills; the ability to successfully interact with various customers and stakeholders. Strong interpersonal and coaching skills are required; must demonstrate the ability to recruit, assess, develop and retain top talent effectively.


The Director Enterprise Data Governance would have a bachelor's degree in business administration, MIS, computer science, engineering, or related field; advanced degree in mentioned areas of study is strongly preferred. 10+ years of relevant data management and customer engagement experience within multifaceted data-driven organizations and 5+ years of experience successfully managing a team. Experience within healthcare organizations a strong plus.
