Job Summary

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Develops the vision, mission, goals, and philosophy for the department.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates athletic program offerings to ensure high quality, diverse and desirable programs.
  • Expands and enhances our sports portfolio, contributing to the diversification and growth of our sports offerings.
  • Establishes policies and procedures to ensure compliance by all intercollegiate sports with University, River States Conference, NAIA, and Title IX requirements.
  • Supervises the assistant director for internal operations, assistant director for communications and marketing, and athletics operations coordinator, administrative support, full-time and part-time head coaches.
  • Orients all staff regarding programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Oversees the scheduling of athletic contests as well as intramural competitions.
  • Organizes the management of intercollegiate athletic events held on campus.
  • Oversees management of the Activities Building, and all athletic and intramural playing fields and courts on campus.
  • Maintains a suitable accident-injury insurance program through Indiana University for student-athletes during practice and play season of each intercollegiate sport.
  • Collaborates with Indiana University Insurance, Loss, Control and Claims, Facility Operations, and University Police to minimize risks for the department. Serves as the primary contact with Indiana University Insurance, Loss, Control and Claims hen incidents occur.
  • Monitors contracted athletic trainer services.
  • Collaborates with the Faculty Athletics Representative and Registrar's office to verify student-athlete eligibility for each sport. Sends a report to the River States Eligibility Chair, declaring that each participant meets all eligibility requirements of IU Southeast, River States and the NAIA.
  • Makes arrangements for officials, announcers, scorekeepers, equipment, custodians, concessions, and gate attendants needed for any campus athletic event. Make arrangements for team travel.
  • Serves as account manager of departmental budgets (approximately 16). Develops and submits annual budget recommendations, monitor financial activities, and approve expenditures.
  • Participates in Student Engagement Leadership team meetings for planning and administration; leads the department's assessment processes, Strategic Plan initiatives, and reports.
  • Represents the department on campus committees and represent IU Southeast in community partnerships.
  • Plans strategies to fundraise and coordinate fundraising activities with University Relations, including the annual Champions Event.
  • Provides guidance to the Grenadier (booster) Club, Athletic Alumni clubs, and promotes community interest in IU Southeast athletics.
  • Serves as the institution's voting delegate at the NAIA Convention when requested by the Chancellor and serve on the River States Executive Committee, attending 3 meetings per year.
  • Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

General Responsibilities
  • Complies fully with all NAIA, applicable athletic conference, and Indiana University rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Failure to do so may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.
  • Provides oversight, leadership, and supervision to all units in the athletics department. Advises, develops, and implements departmental policies and strategies including yearly and long-term strategic plans. Assesses and evaluates all areas of the athletics department.
  • Represents the athletics department to internal and external constituencies; enhances relationships and communication.
  • Directs the cultivation of relationships with individuals, corporate sponsors, and donors to generate revenue for the athletics program; develops strategies and an operations plan to meet capital, endowment, and annual giving goals.

EDUCATION

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in related field
Preferred
  • Master's degree in sports administration, business, education, or related field
WORK EXPERIENCE

Required
  • 5 years of experience in athletics administration
  • 3 years of management experience
Preferred
  • Budget management and fundraising experience

LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS

Preferred
  • Possess a valid driver¿s license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University
  • CPR certification (department will provide, if needed)

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation. This role requires average mobility and the ability to lift 30 pounds.

Advertised Salary

$75,000 - $80,000 per year based on experience.
