Position Summary

The Director of Instructional Design and Assessment will strategize, recommend, and help lead implementation of program and curriculum improvements through instructional design activities, instructional technology solutions, and assessment. This position will work closely with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Assistant Dean for Field Education, Program Directors, and relevant GSSW committees (e.g., MSW Committee, Assessment) to identify teaching and learning needs, analyze and develop instructional technology solutions, assess the curriculum and student progress toward competencies, and supervise staff who will support these activities. This position reports to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.

Essential Functions

  • Design, implement, and manage GSSW's curricular and instructional strategy to promote program improvement, assess course- and field-based learning for required competencies, and align courses with overall accreditation standards (e.g., Council on Social Work Education).
  • Develop and lead implementation of instructional technology solutions for course design and instructional needs and innovation, including keeping abreast of current technology-related trends or emerging ideas.
  • Analyze the feasibility of and develop new accountability systems and enhancements to existing systems for instructional design and assessment, ensuring that the system design fits the needs of the users.
  • Develop datasets and ensure data integrity for use in reporting and analysis utilizing various quantitative and qualitative research methods.
  • Coordinate with DU's Office of Teaching and Learning, or other campus centers or groups, to explore training opportunities, partnerships, and emerging initiatives that will support faculty in the analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of effective and inclusive learning practices.
  • Manage and execute ad hoc data requests related to instructional design and assessment from the Dean, Associate and Assistant Deans, or Program Directors.
  • Integrate expertise and high attention to diversity, equity, and inclusion through instructional design and assessment activities, in support of anti-racist and anti-oppressive teaching and learning at GSSW.
  • Serve as GSSW's liaison to relevant DU committees, groups, or listservs related to instructional design and assessment.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Expertise using effective instructional design strategies that are informed by program assessment to guide program improvement.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based theories and practices of instructional design and technology.
  • Strong leadership, management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong inclination to be curious about data trends and to take initiative to explore data patterns and share findings via written reports, in addition to staying informed about new data analytic tools and methods.
  • Strong spreadsheet (e.g., panels and pivot tables in Excel) and database skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated experience identifying pedagogical needs and supporting faculty on a variety of curriculum and instructional technology projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in anti-racist, anti-oppressive, inclusive educational programming.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively engage individuals from broadly diverse communities.
  • Adept at managing priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to take initiative and accomplish projects with little supervision.
  • Ability to communicate with faculty, staff, students, and outside vendors at a high level, including communication of complex technical concepts and information to a wide range of users to guide program improvement decisions.
  • Ability to generate and use statistics to summarize program assessment findings and inform strategies for program improvement.
  • Ability to critically reason and apply reasoning to pedagogical problems.
  • Ability to communicate technical/complex information both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperation, understanding, trust, and credibility with others.
Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in educational technology, instructional design and technology, pedagogy, or related field
  • Five or more years progressive work experience in an educational environment or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience
  • Three or more years in an educational leadership position related to instructional design, assessment, or curriculum development and accreditation
  • Experience using Learning Management Systems and supporting technologies for learning
  • Proficiency with SAS, SPSS, R, or other statistical software
Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctorate degree preferred
  • Five or more years' experience designing and developing learning content
  • Experience with designing for inclusive learning experiences
  • Experience working in higher education accreditation or institutional research
  • Collegiate teaching experience
  • Faculty development experience
  • Course design and development experience in different environments (e.g., online, blended, face-to-face)

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. This position is eligible for partial flexible/remote work consideration (e.g., 2 days/week remote)

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 12.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $85,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate's sex or any other protected status.
