POSITION OVERVIEW

Tilcon Connecticut Inc. is seeking an experienced Director of Logistics for our Connecticut locations. This individual is responsible for all facets of the department including, planning, organizing, and directing the operations and activities of the department; develop and prepare the annual preliminary budgets; train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel; coordinate and manage various 3rd party transportation subcontractors and vendors; and build internal relationships within our materials and construction lines of business promoting continued collaboration towards improvement. You will be responsible for promoting company values and business plan, the oversight of projects, company policies, team members, vendors and clients. This is an engaging position requiring strong leadership and communication skills, special attention to detail, and demonstrating integrity, team building, collaboration and excellence creating a high-performance culture. All Tilcon Connecticut employees are expected to partner with associates and management of Tilcon Connecticut Inc. establishing key internal relationships to coordinate, support, and actively promote our safety processes and keep safety embedded in the culture of our Company. The chosen candidate will be a key leader fully aligned with the members of the management team and reports directly to the Vice President of Construction.

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the transportation operations team to achieve safety, performance, and financial success.
  • Help establish production's Key Performance Indicators (KPI's), interpret, and apply key financial indicators to make better business decisions.
  • Lead development and implementation of distribution and transportation policies; development of models, procedures, and processes for planning of distribution and transportation activities, including using a Transportation Management System (TMS) that drives further efficiency to our processes.
  • Manage strategic sub-contractor, 3rd party hauler, and vendor relationships to ensure customer satisfaction and vendor loyalty.
  • Be accountable for 3rd party hauler performance, including setting service expectations, monitoring service and financial performance and holding haulers accountable.
  • Oversee hauler agreements, including terms and rates; collaborate with Legal to ensure company is protected from financial liability and carriers have adequate insurance.
  • Build strong internal relationship, especially with the construction department, ensuring continuous collaboration delivering efficiencies and superior customer satisfaction.
  • Take responsibility for developing and delivering change management plans and achieving outcomes that support the organization's overall strategy.
  • Manage day-to-day operations ensuring customer demands are met through efficient dispatching of internal and external resources.
  • Manage and report on the performance of the function /business area; set appropriate performance objectives for direct reports and hold them accountable for achieving these; take appropriate corrective action where necessary to ensure the achievement of annual business objectives.
  • Communicate the function's strategy and its relationship to the organization's mission, vision and values; clarify the actions needed to implement it within the area of responsibility; motivate people to commit to these and to doing extraordinary things to achieve the organization's business goals.
  • Build strong-identity teams that apply their diverse skills and perspectives to achieve common goals.
  • Promote a safe working culture for employees.
  • Work with safety and field personnel to minimize risk and increase safety.
  • Identify and manage stakeholders up to top management level, finding out their needs/issues/concerns and reacting to these by leading and coordinating the development of stakeholder engagement plans to support the communication of business information and decisions. Anticipates and balances the needs of multiple stakeholders.
  • Identify the capabilities needed to meet the current and emerging business needs of a significant business area. Evaluate current capabilities, identify gaps, and prioritize development activities. Motivate others to develop their capabilities and fulfill their personal potential. Build capabilities elsewhere in the organization through mentoring and other informal methods.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience
  • Any combination equivalent to: Bachelor's Degree in a related field and five to 10 years' experience in a combination of operations, logistics and transportation management.
  • Thorough operational knowledge of trucking and related equipment to be operated.
  • Experience in strategic planning and execution.
  • Experience creating, working within and/or administering an assigned budget.
  • High standard of ethics, integrity, and trust.
  • Strong work ethic and high standards for safety in the workplace.
  • Proven ability to develop relationships and to work with teams as both a leader and a participant.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills; building rapport, listening, presenting, giving and receiving feedback.
  • Pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Pass a pre-employment "Fit for Work" physical.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

Employees are required to wear personal protective equipment in designated operations and construction areas as outlined by OSHA, MSHA, and state agencies. Protective equipment that may be required, but not limited to, for this position: Hardhat, safety glasses, face shield, reinforced toed shoes, hand protection, respirator, air monitor, reflective safety vest, and hearing protection.
